Gianforte and King look to be in trouble. Maybe not a great night for douches in the middle of the country.

Democrats will just have to figure out how to sell progressive policies in the heartland instead of being folksy "moderate" standing for nothing and hoping for the best. Republicans are selling fake populism out there, Democrats need to sell the real New Deal.

I’ll be interested in the breakdown of which Dems won and lost vs who was moderate/corporatist and who was more progressive.

That will give us an idea of what candidates to run in 2020

The good news is that one of the most successful speakers of the house will be back in power.
The bad news is that person is the rights 2nd favorite boogeyman, Nancy Pelosi.
I actually don't think pelosi makes any sort of difference. GOP still are using hillary and clinton as bogey men.

I don't see any of this as fun. Voter satisfaction in government is at all time lows, government is less responsive to voter needs at all time lows, and the country is fairly steadily losing is position in an increasingly complicated and threatening world. Yet people keep voting for the same individuals that have more or less created this situation. This is probably as good in terms of voter enthusiasm as it's gonna get and the dems basically got crushed. Future looks pretty grim I think...I mean alabama literally just voted to codify the ten commandments into state law. This is 2018. I mean even the Alabama leadership in like the 1800s (an allegedly more backwards time, though I guess with the events of today that is questionable) didn't think of doing something so asinine and unamerican. But here we are...
Crushed? You need to understand that the number of Dem seats in this election was very very high. The Reps should have made substantial gains, really crushed and the Dems will take the House instead. The next election puts the Reps in a more vulnerable position and the House can get to the bottom of things regarding Trump. They can also introduce legislation on healthcare and tax reform for those not in the 100 foot plus yacht club. Sure the Reps will kill it, but then that leaves their throat exposed in 2020.

Can the Dems snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory? Well it wouldn't be the first time but right now a real key to power will have been given to them.

Yea, tell me, here in FL Rick Scott beat longtime senator Bill Nelson for exactly what no one knows. Dude was CEO of Columbia healthcare that was caught defrauding Medicare and had to repay $1.4 BILLION. He's gutted the education system here in FL, we are 45th in teacher salary and student's test scores reflect that. A co worker's wife is a teacher, she has to bring in toilet paper because there's not enough in the budget to last for a full month. Ron Desantis won governor by 77K votes, the man had NO PLATFORM for his campaign, just 'keep doing what Rick Scott did", then he did everything but get on his knees and suck Trump's dick in public, complete with his 4yr old building a mini Trump "wall" on a TV ad. He took $$ from a Neo-Nazi group and refused to return it when pointed out, AND HE STILL WON. I've had to endure plenty of FL jokes here, (and from family) and you know what?, WE DESERVE IT..

Ridiculous. Democrats wouldn't even be in this position if progressives hadn't forced the focus away from Russia and towards health care and populist demands. I have no doubt that the ossified democrats like Schumer and Pelosi will try to keep it as a center-right crony capitalist party, it's up to progressives to fight them to the left.

Any Democrat that doesn't support a Medicare for all bill in the first 100 days needs to be primaried.

Progressives have destroyed the party and are a lot of the Reason Trump exists. Pelosi would be right to tamper that.

What did you expect? Its florida, america's wang.
It's a state that every year gets absolutely destroyed by hurricanes and people just keep rebuilding.
Florida is where people go either to retire and die or when they're at the end of their rope or running from the police in their home state or something.

"Tamper" is a Republican word, used by you stupidly wrongly . . . a truly Trumpian move. ;)

The economy is roaring, unemployment is at historic lows, and the ruling party lost seats across the country. Yes, a great victory for Trump!

Democrats did well, especially in the face of all the voter suppression Republicans have been doing.

Time to get introspective my brother, progressivism needs to slow it’s roll.

CNN has called the Texas 7th for Democrat Lizzie Fletcher. I went to Houston to report on the race there this summer. Literally dotted with country clubs, the area is yet another well-educated, well-to-do urban/suburban district that has swung dramatically toward Democrats in recent years. In fact, it swung the most of any district outside of Utah from Romney to Clinton between 2012 and 2016 — a whole 23 points
