I much prefer the new hybrid supercars. Using an electric motor to fill in the torque gaps of a ICE is a brilliant use of technology. Using an electric motor to power the car and an ICE to recharge it so you can get have good fuel economy is the awful thing!

I'd rather they focus on lowering weight.

Hybrids make the most sense on commuter cars. Not on cars like this.
 
A light sports car used to mean 2,500lbs or less, now it means 3,500. We're going the wrong way, damn it. 😡
 
What color is in the Ford emblem?

The deep blue of the Ford emblem would have been a fantastic choice for the stage lights.

Not that crazy about the new FGT, but it isn't bad.

However, if a 600HP V6 is all it has, I don't see it really competing with the new Honda NSX.

I think the FGT will be a budget supercar, like $60k to $70k. Something that can run rings around far more expensive cars. No hybrid drive train otherwise it would have been announced already.
 
I really hope there's some form of hybrid system in the FGT they're not telling us about (yet) or they're slow playing the drastically low weight.

Otherwise I just don't see how this commands the pricing rumored on GT forums.

Viper GTS

Those rumors seem to be nothing but speculation. I would be surprised if this car stickers over $200K. I would predict it will be in the $150-200K range. That said, I expect there will be significant dealer markups over that, and people will pay them.

I'm curious what Ford did to get 600 HP out of the engine. It doesn't sound much different than the 365 HP engine that's in my car as both are EcoBoost twin-turbo 3.5L V6.

Kicked up the pressure? I know my 2.0 has nearly single digit pressure, I think the setup for EB is keep the turbo from being overworked so it lasts as long as the engine. So they played it safe on the whole line up. Even kicking up the boost in the 2.0 for the FiST is still only for 10 seconds and is probably only 2-3 psi more. An EB in a FGT wouldn't need to last 125-175k miles. More like 60k at max. So crank the boost.
 
Stronger internals, bigger turbos, better intake, exhaust, and intercooler? With a 3.5l turbo, the sky is the limit. The last supra with a 3 liter could put out over 1000 hp with enough effort.

I would say they don't. Not to the level of Porche or Ferrari. Heck even the other Hypercar companies. I would kill for the opportunity to have a P1. It's a heck of a car. But its also built on a previous platform. Is heavier. And out of the big three is almost all have agreed its the least engaging to drive. I know why they made some of the choices they did. I won't hold it against them, but I think people want the P1 to be the best of them, whether its nostalgia over the F1, or because they are the first real English speaking company to try to take it to Ferrari. But in the end I don't think the P1 is a great as people want it to be.

Which makes no sense. The P1 is faster than Ferrari's offerings in the 0-60 and has a top speed that is electronically limited to be just under the F12s (217 vs 220). Now, neither have a Top Gear track time listed, but it is reported the P1 beat the Huayra (but that was from McLaren, so take it as you will). I also imagine the 918 is faster.
 
It looks okay, but stylistically it's trying too hard. It loses a lot of the GT / GT40 charm. I seriously doubt it'll sound anywhere near as good, either. So why are they building it?
 
Agree on lowering weight but smackababy has valid point regarding torque curve. The 918 has electric motors and it's outstanding because of them.

The issue isn't with hybrid tech, it's with batteries. Heavy f***ers they are. Sure, the electric motors weigh a bit, but tech in that area has been leaping forward in that respect.

That and with their weight comes great space loss. Salesman opens a non-hybrid car's trunk? "Wow that's cavernous for such a small car!" Salesman opens a hybrid car's trunk? "Haha that's funny ok so really go ahead and open the trunk."
