The 1996 Camry wagon my mom just bought provides a far superior ride and noise level compared to the 2007 Corolla-based Matrix my mom bought brand new in 2007. The seats also don't kill be my back like the Matrix. I now wonder if all Corollas provide such a crappier ride compared to its bigger mid-sized brother.

Corollas might look like smaller versions of Camry, but if you want a comfortable, quiet ride, get a real Camry. Corolla and the Matrix are reliable but they still ride like small cars, too noisy at freeway speed, and not that comfortable for long drives, relatively speaking of course.

I just take off my quick release front wheel and throw/slide my bike in behind the Camry's front seats...

Yeah, that's the easy way to do it and I'm continually amazed at the number of people who try stuffing a bike into a car without dropping the front wheel. Dropping the front wheel turns the bike into a very narrow flat panel less than a foot wide...after you turn the front fork/handlebar to parallel the frame. Makes sliding it into/behind the front seats a snap.

fixed for you

Family's 1996 is still chugging along. id also say its better than alot of the shitboxes that i rented in recent years (cobalt, G6, aveo, etc)

My mom had a 96, it did drive better than the 04 she bought. The steering and throttle both felt more responsive. But in terms of styling, the 06 is a gorgeous car. 90s car design mostly look like rounded meek looking econoboxes.

Can't say anything about your comparison to earlier models, not ever driving them, but increasing the rim size from 15 to 17 along with performance tires over touring tires, improved the ride/responsiveness of the 05...

None of the exterior designs since 06 are better. Period. That's my story and I'm sticking to it...for as long as I own my 05...which should be a good many years as it rides like new, even @ 123k miles and 10 years old.
