I think it's good design to have the screen external like that. Otherwise you are unnecessarily making the dash too bulky and/or unnecessarily constraining the size or location of the LCD. Here, the LCD is of the right size and right location while the dash is a nice minimalist design as well. I don't have a bad association with aftermarket GPS systems, since in my experience aftermarket GPS is almost always better than a factory one, and the location above the dashboard is one of the reasons.

Agreed.

Audi just isn't a vehicle I will ever get excited over... I don't care how good it looks on paper. Too complicated and too many reliability issues with them.

I haven't had any problems with my A5, but I probably won't be getting another Audi when my lease is up. I've heard about reliability issues, but since I leased, I am not too worried.

Any reason why you wouldn't look at another Audi? We're also considering the A5 or a CPO S5. Would probably lease anything new if it made sense.

Honestly, there is really no reason I shouldn't like my A5, but I just don't. I haven't had any problems, but I can't shake the fear that if I bought it after my lease, I'd run into them. And I have no desire for any other Audi, even as I am starting to look for a sedan.

It's a sterile brand. They do good things but they aren't really inspiring.

A little concerned for that.. reason why I'm going to be test driving everything I can. We're considering a wide range of coupes and sedans so there's a lot to drive! BRZ, IS 250/350, A4, A3, S3, A5, S5, 3-series, 2-series, 4-series, CLA45 AMG, etc.

Going for a B6 S4 into an E46 M3 was a night and day difference; the m3 was a sharper car in every dimension; I still love it.

That being said, there's nothing I don't like about my S8. Loaded with technology, great transmission and boatloads of torque. It nails it as far as big sedans go.

There is a good chance I am going to be looking very hard in the direction of an IS350.

If you're looking for the most logical choice, the IS350 is it. The only other contender in the smart choices for that kind of vehicle is the G37S. Both are outstanding.

The BMW and Merc are more exciting (well, haven't driven the 2/4 series yet, but speaking of up to 2012 model 1/3 series), but maintenance is no joke, depending on how long you keep em. Anything under 50k miles should be flawless overall, from 50-100k you see a few things, then north of 100k it can get expensive in a real hurry.
