I'm so tired today and all that to still see the Preds lose. This has been such a tight series and unfortunately for the Preds it's now 3-1 Blackhawks and the outlook is bleak at best. Kane comes back for the Hawks. Fisher/Weber go down for the Preds. Not a good chain of events for the team in gold. Oh well.

I feel your pain. If the Hawks had lost last night I would be even crabbier than I am. The late starts are killing me. Sad to see so many empty seats at the end of the game because people that took public transportation had to leave in order to make it home.
Why not start the games at 7:00 or 7:30 and not be concerned about the east or west coasts? Strong enough local market viewership.

Yea, that is annoying.
Using my comcast credentials, I get errors or "this programming is not available" if i try to stream the games, yet if I use those same credentials on the nbcsports page I can watch the games just fine.

The 8:30ish start was brutal even for a game that ends in regulation. Staying up that late to watch the Preds lose makes today a bad day at work. By the time it ended, everything on my TV screen was just a mash up of colors that I couldn't distinguish anymore.

I am hoping that the Habs take The Sens down today so they are done and do not get more tired paying them. If the Wings beat the Lightening, then I see a much easier path for the Habs.

caps/islanders game was pretty damn good last night. I thought the wilson hit was pretty clean.

As a general note, my decades of playing and watching hockey has lead me to conclude that "prevent" defenses prevent you from winning, not from losing. If you are not attacking, then you are static and the other team gets more rushes. More rushes = more goals scored against you.

So effing true. It's a lot easier to score when you know you don't have to play defense.

I think the Joe is fun during regular season games. But playoff games are insane.

Having been to dozens of games, I never went to a playoff game until a game vs Dallas in the '08 cup run and was blown away by how hype the atmosphere was.

Never been to a playoff game but I went to Joevision when they won the cup in either 97 or 98 and I couldn't hear for 2 days afterward. The buzz through the stadium was just incredible.

"Defense wins championships." They capitalize on the opponents mistakes such as when they try and force a pass. Play goes the other way with an odd-man rush and done. There are some good defensive players who can score (Hossa, Nash, Datsyuk). Try making up that goal against against the same stifling defense the rest of the game. Playoffs are a whole different animal.

Some coaches think safe is death (Torts). This is somewhat true but in professional leagues where all the marbles are on the line, you are better off playing defensively than keep it wide open. The reason is the other team starts taking more chances the later it gets and that can expose a porous defensive scheme easily.

BTW, stay classy Isles fans: https://twitter.com/myregularface/status/590711445953892352/photo/1 - that was last night.

After game 3 at LI three days ago, some Caps fans got verbally harrassed (racist and homosexual), given the finger, their seats kicked, and even had a car in the parking lot keyed. MD plates were also taken. I'm a LI'er and we're not all "rude NY'ers" so I'm just going to blame it on fricken alcohol. It's always the alcohol.

There is a big difference between playing "defense" and playing "prevent defense". Goaltending wins series, btw.

Prevent defense is not regular defense that almost always has an attack built in. It basically means collapse into a shell around your goalie and try and hold on. You even tend to get more penalties because the other team ends up with more speed and momentum.

Ryan Kessler was a great trade. Silfverberg/Kessler has taken a lot off the shoulders of Perry/Getzlaf.

tampa bay really pushed it there before bothering to show up. sort of hoped for more. if they keep playing like they did last night they are not going to keep being lucky.

Well, I fell asleep happy after the second period. Huge swing in the series, definitely doesn't look good right now. Hopefully Glendening is ok for Game 5.

And the Blackhawks lose which means Crawford will get the start Saturday. To make myself feel better I am going to believe they lost on purpose so they can win it at home which makes them more money. Don't believe that for a second, but I am trying to.

At least the game ended before Friday this time.

welp, pens went down in 5, I was hoping for 6. Maybe soon Rutherford will be shipped out with johnston. There's a problem if you can't score more than 1 goal consistently, 7 of 11 of the last games pens only scored 1. Definitely wouldn't put any blame on fluery this year, without him, the team would have been sub .500.

That last Habs game was terrible. The shots look good but they are alms of all from terrible angles or far away with no traffic.
