I thought both of those guys had something left. Two of my fave players of all time. Willis was a man among boys for so long. Sad to see him go.

Weird rumor flying around of Kap being traded

LOL

I've watched him since he was drafted.. indeed a man among boys. It's really surreal to hear of his retirement. Sad sad day for me. I've lost 3 of my current 49er jerseys this weekend (Gore, Willis, Smith).. Still have a Kaep, Aldon, Bowman and Borland to go through this off season.. 😛

Concerning Kap.. I'm hearing its the Eagles being interested? WTF?? lol

Gore leaving just reeks of him giving the finger to the ownership or them to him. At his age, and position he's not exactly a hot item. Plus the team he's probably going to dumped their two best offensive weapons years back to back. All that caused players around the league to say they may be wary of playing for the Eagles because they could be cut/dumped at any time, yet this is where an over 30 year old RB, who's been with one team his entire career decides to go? Doesn't make sense to me... I mean what are they going to pay him that would be so unreasonable that we couldn't?

Willis retiring... Ugh... If he AND Smith retires we are going to be pretty bad on both sides of the ball.

Kaep would actually fit in well in the Eagles system. I've said similar about RG3. A face paced offense and a cannon arm would work well under Kelly IMO.

I actually, despite hating the Eagles, love the "you can be cut at any time" mantra. If you're not helping the team win, you're dead weight. There are a ton of other guys willing to step up and replace you. If more teams thought like this, Chicago wouldn't be in their Cutler situation.

I don't disagree, but they got rid of their number 1 WR first then their star back next? It's not like these guys weren't able to produce.

How many second-tier and players (especially QBs) have the Eagles pawned off to other teams over the years for exhoribant prices? Kevin Kolb, Donovan McNabb, Asante Samuel, the list goes on. The only former Eagles players teams should pick up are the ones the Eagles cut outright like DeSean Jackson or Randall Cunningham.

Eagles are being smart. With so many vets available they can wait till the big money flies off the shelves and the deals remain. They will sign 2 or 3 number 2s and threes and draft someone like Nelson Agholor or Sammie Coates in the second and develop them. So many recievers in this draft its gonna turn out to be better than last year!

Hell in the second a guy like Jaelen Strong could be available and he would be a number 1 almost any other year. There will be good options available in the later rounds too. Antwan goodley and Breshaud Perriman and guys lke that keep dropping.

That is true, but how much are those players worth really? Kelly could believe that a 2nd tier back could be almost as productive splitting time with Sproles for much less than $8 million a year or whatever Shady is being paid now. And, as far as receiver, with the depth of that position, I think Kelly could take a young one and make him productive, while the other guys help pick up the slack. Kelly is a college coach, he is used to bringing in young players and molding him to his system.

And, if anything, this speaks to how much the owners believe in him.

Sometimes the best way to make your team competitive is to allow other teams to trade for or give big FA deals to your players, thus making that other team less competitive due to salary cap constraints.

Remember how everyone thought NE was crazy a couple years ago allowing Wes Welker to go to DEN over a couple million dollar's difference? Being a cold blooded bastard who lets guys like him and Wilfork walk go a long way to becoming and remaining a winning franchise.

If the Eagles are going after Kaep, or any other QB, makes me think the price to get a top pick in the draft is too much. I know the rumors were they would go after a high draft pick to try and get Mariota but guess that did not work out.

Can't disagree here. Lots of good WR's in this draft as well.

Cowboys lose backup tackle Jeremy Parnell to Jags. He really stepped up and did a good job when Doug Free got hurt. Hate to see OL depth leave.

I've never looked at it like that, interesting.

Looking at just the position and rushes per yard/game, I'm not worried about on field performance with Hyde in the wings, but locker room presence and experience rather. I am really interested in seeing what Willis will provide for reasons for retiring, may reveal some more issues with the ownership. Seems like they got their shiny new stadium and now don't care much about what happens with the team.

He's retiring due to religious happenings. To get more involved and such.. Kinda sounds like a Glen Coffee thing.

Didn't Coffee just not want to play football? Would seem strange for Willis to come to that realization after like 9 seasons. Maybe he just doesn't enjoy it anymore?

Coffee didnt want to put in the work and didnt like being hurt.

hes played hurt for the last few years. That toe really bothered him and he played trough it for a long time. Now all of his friends are leaving and hes not sure he wants to go trough the grind again. Totally understandable. He is as a high character guy as there is out there. He really intents do be more involved in philanthropic endevours and spend time with his family.

I wonder if the rumors of being traded really hurt him. I heard hes very sensitive to that kind of stuff and he was CRAZY loyal to harbaugh.

Think I remember him "finding God" and retired after that. Apparently Willis found him too. Then again, maybe God said to him "York and Baalke are idiots, just retire now" or something.

I didn't know much about him except that he said his heart wasn't really in football and he wanted to go back to school and finish.

I didnt type out my response very well.

Most of what I wrote about was about willis.

Coffee freaked out during camp and OTAs that year from what I remember though he was very religious as well.

Vernon Davis in top form on the other end of the line as Thomas would be pretty beast though. And then, they get like 10 or so games with a strong arm Manning slinging to them.
