They should call this the *Fusion Coupe* or *Thunderbird*, and make it handle like a Euro car. But make the new Mustang still based of the retro design and make it a pure muscle car. Then Ford will have both.

Thunderbird is a good idea

I like it. overall I am not a mustang guy, but I have always thought about owning one... then I look at the lack of IRS, the fugly rear end, played out retro styling and I really have no desire to.

the rendering looks good IMHO, and if they can sort out my other dislikes, I think they'll have a proper evolution for the car. I personally think ditching the V6 in favor of a turbo'd 4 will bring in new buyers. They need to keep the weight down on the next gen. I like the way ford is going, should be interesting

IRS has already been spotted in test mules and confirmed for the next generation.

2013 GT has a curb weight of 3600 lbs. Not a Miata, but perfectly reasonable for a pony car meeting modern crash standards. Also consider the Camaro SS has a curb weight of 3850 lbs and the Challenger RT has a curb weight of 4080 lbs; the Mustang is a lightweight in it's class.

IIRC Ford has also said they have a target of shedding 300lbs off of the next gen Mustang as well. So a ~3300lb, IRS, 420-450hp 5.0 Mustang is going to be pretty amazing no matter how ugly they want to make it.

What kind of idiot magazine "speculates" about future car design to include a rendering of a non-existent design, assholes IMO..

They shouldn't change the Mustang's retro look.
But they should make something like that anyway. :)

There is a pretty good selection of speculative styling out there. Have a look through the comments on this page.

http://jalopnik.com/5949026/the-20145-ford-mustang-everything-we-know

I kinda like the one at the top of the page. The car has a lot of potential from what they're saying about it. IRS, 5.0, and less weight are enough to keep me interested no matter what it looks like.

The one at the top is fuckin' sweet. It actually manages to say 'Mustang' without beating you over the head with a first gen fastback and screaming 'ELEEEAAANNNOOORRR!!!!'

Looks great, but not a Mustang.(ya, I read it isn't anyway) There isn't anything wrong with the Retro look IMO. An icon like Mustang doesn't need and shouldn't make radical changes. At least that quickly anyway.

That would be the best looking car ever. Fuck this whole retro thing people, and move forward in life.

I love it, and I hate Mustangs

On top of that, it now just looks like another japanese/euro car. I don't know if you guys agree but I really hope the real car looks nothing like that rendering.

Thats because jap/euro cars look good and thats where the future is going. They want to stay competitive with new car buyers who actually have taste, and not your typical blue blooded American who is just going to buy Ford because his daddy did, and his daddy before him did.

should be titled:

"WE JUST MADE THIS UP"

but then it wouldn't sell as much

This. More or less all speculation designed sell magazines/get hits to their web site. It is a shame what passes for journalism these days.

Doesn't look American. Looks Japanese. That's not necessarily bad.

The rendering looks like the product of a joint venture among Mazda, Mitsubishi and Nissan engineers. End result? A new Ford Mustang. I look at it and see aspects of Miata, Lancer and Z. This thing is so un-American it's hilarious.

I'd buy it.

Ford has been taking a lot of their design ques from European cars. Cars like the Quatroporte and Vantage. It does feel like a step backward, especially with the 250hp i4 engine. I can see this as being right at home as the next Taurus or Lincoln MKZ. It's not a Mustang though. The Mustang isn't a sports car or a grand tourer, it's a pony car. Square front and back, big engines, designed for straight line performance.

250hp in a 4 banger is nothing to sneeze at. Don't blame Ford for not making the car as powerfull as it could be. Blame the government for imposing CAFE standards on them and limiting what can be done.

I've got your picture of me and you
You wrote "I love you" I wrote "me too"
I sit there staring and there's nothing else to do
Oh it's in color Your hair is brown
Your eyes are hazel And soft as clouds
I often kiss you when there's no one else around

I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of you all round my cell
I want a doctor to take your picture
So I can look at you from inside as well
You've got me turning up and turning down
And turning in and turning 'round

I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese

Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so

No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women
No fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it's dark
Everyone around me is a total stranger
Everyone avoids me like a cyclone ranger
That's why I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese

I'm gonna have to agree here. I like it.

Mustang needs a change. Retro thing is played out and they need a breath of fresh air.

Agreed. I like it too.

The current Mustang looks dated and the interior needs to get away from the retro inspired theme too. It is due for an update. Lose the childish stripes too.

Keep the Recaro seats though.

Meh but it still has that ugly Ford badge not a high tech sophisticated technologically advanced space age back lit rotating BMW badge.

Huh? I don't think the Mustang looks dated at all. What date are you talking about? 2010?

It is going on what, 8 years? 8 years with the same retro style, which is based on a design from the 1960s that had a production run of 9 years based on that style.

I think Ford can do better. I like the look of this drawing.

Whew, got that in before my ban. :whiste:
