Friday my dad and I were bored and happened to be out running some errands. There is a Ford dealer about 1-2 miles from home that we pass all the time... and they had 2 GTs on the lot. My dad has been looking at used c6 vettes, and I just kinda suggested that we go take a look at the new mustang... because... why not. After about 10 minutes of looking around the car with a sales guy, and telling him that we definitely weren't interested in buying anything today, he gave us the keys to one of the two GTs and told us to go take it out.

I was pretty impressed with the car. It was a loaded GT premium automatic with pretty much everything except the track package (MSRP was somewhere around 42.5k).
-The interior quality seemed to be an improvement over what I recall from the previous generation.
- My biggest interior gripe is the chrome retro style gauge surrounds which I hate (they are no where near as bad as the stupid looking ones in the Camaro though).
- The steering wheel also had a bunch of buttons that really looked to be tacked on. The toggle switches that they added are really solid feeling... as are the dials in the center stack.
- The seats (standard not recaro) were comfortable, perhaps bit too soft, but had adequate bolstering.
- We didn't beat on the car, but the powertrain seemed capeable (I would have liked to drive the manual PP GT that they had sitting next to this but my dad knew wife approval would likely be linked to transmission choice if he were to buy new).
- Adjustable steering damping (similar to what is in my C7) worked well.
- The exhaust note is very nice on the coyote... but I thought it was really quiet driving around (and we had the windows open to hear it). Maybe it's because we drove to the dealer in the C7 and I have the NPP exhaust fuse removed (still not loud at all IMHO)?
- I personally think the car is just as beautiful in person as it is in pictures (I'm a huge fan of what they did stylistically on the exterior).
- It drives pretty nice, but is underdamped even for normal day to day driving (PP may help that a bit).

I like the Camaro exterior (perhaps it's a bit dated). I couldn't live with the interior. Not necessarily the materials... I just find it to be stupid looking.

I would buy the new mustang over a used GT500 at the same price unless we are talking about the newer 13-14 cars (even then I'd rather have a Boss 302... there is such a thing as too much power for a chassis). The older GT500s didn't do much for me. I don't know what they cost used. I would assume that in a straight line (and probably in some not so straight lines) the 11 GT500 with real tires would spank the new GT. I'd still rather own the new GT. If I was spending 35k on a dedicated track car, I wouldn't get either.

If 99.9% of people don't care about the track, then they won't buy the 1LE option anyways. Both of the cars sell the lower trim levels in-mass anyways where most owners just want a 4 seater coupe.

The performance upgrades for the GT are actually rather useful on a road, unlike the 1LE options. Also, car buyers are known for buying stupid crap they'll never need just because it seems cool (or the dealer already has it installed).

If it was my money the 2015 GT would get the purchase. I like going to the track upon occasion and still wouldn't pick the faster GT500. The new car is a great cruiser for the 99% of the time spent in the real world.

I'm not sure why you're focusing on the 1LE package so much. That is the analog to the Boss 302 package for Mustangs.

I find a lot of you wanting the new GT, interesting points you guys have, I like the sure speed of the gt500, but I can see the interests of wanting to run the GT on a track.

Random update. The admin with the Camaro wants to sell me her older mustang. It is a 2006 gt with a rousch supercharger installed by the ford dealer on day 1.

Black on Black excellent condition. My main gripe is it has 126k on it. They used it as a daily driver. She got the Camaro since it is an auto and the mustang is a stick.

She wants 10500 for it. Good deal or not? It has 415hp at the crank. A stock GT KBB is 9500. The supercharger new goes for 6500 on Ebay. She also installed an Eclipse DVD navigation in the car. The car has been on Royal purple since the first change.

I am tempted to buy it only because it is 1/3 the cost of a cobra with similar horsepower. At that level of mileage is the engine pretty much shot? She said it was never tracked. The partner at my firm almost bought it for her son but got scared that he might kill himself in it after she test drove it.

hard to get rid of my perfectly good TL for this but it could be a fun car.

A 2011 GT500 (Cobra) has 550hp. How is that similar to 415hp?

I was looking at the 2007 shelbys. I think they had 450. They are about 30k on ebay. If you think it is bad deal let me know. If I could pick up a Shelby for 15k I will just opt for a car completely built for the performance.

I think the 2006 gt does not have forged internals which can also lead to problems. I was thinking if the car is really worth like 15k and I can get it for 10. I saved 33%. If it just a decent deal I will pass on it.

Well one nice thing about the GT you are looking at is you know the original owner and know that it was taken care of. That's definitely good for piece of mind over buying something randomly over the internet with 6 owners.

If the supercharger has been installed since day one, it's not worth anywhere near 6500 anymore even if you take it off. Furthermore, everyone who does aftermarket modifications knows that you get like 20 - 40 cents on the dollar for anything you add (and sometimes you get to subtract lol). Even if she put that S/C on yesterday, it still wouldn't add close to 6500 to the value of the car. I don't know what sort of options the car has, but based on a quick NADA check for a loaded car 10-11k is the clean retail. I wouldn't value the S/C upgrade as anything more than a grand. I think the price she is asking is fair, but you certainly aren't getting anything for free. That also assumes that the car is otherwise in good mechanical condition and is clean. She would probably get 8.5k on a trade if the car was again clean/good.

That being said, you should be able to find a nice 2011 GT coupe (first year for the coyote engine) for around 20k with about half as many miles as the older used GT you are considering. If your budget allows it, that might be a good way to go. IMHO, the 2011+ GTs (2010 still had the old engine) are damn fine cars with a great engine. I'm also not a huge fan of any mustang body style between the foxes and the 2010. I'm not sure what they were doing in that period (though some of the special editions looked pretty decent).

To OP: new mustang will have 0 miles and look at how these motors handle super/turbo it's craaazy. that and the GT500s seem to be more a numbers game rather than fun to drive. If your looking for the hp numbers just upgrade

Thanks for the advice. No way am I purchasing the car.

Now onto finding a 2011 GT500 Banger Blue with Black Stripes. I am usually a black on black guy but for some reason I love that color combo. It looks mean. The Black versions of the car don't pop like they should. They need to look more aggressive.

Or just go for a black on black Mid 2000's Viper. They cost the same and are plentiful with high reliability.

The GT500 purchase will have to be near the end of the year. The 2016 Shelbys will be coming out and drive down the price of the 2011. Stupid ford did not make them in 2015.

Has 2016 been confirmed for the Shelby? It's usually 2 years after a makeover before the big dog is released.

GT350 has, the GT500 has not.

GT350 is a 5.2L Flat Plane motor that is supposed to make over 500+ HP and 400+ Torque, naturally aspirated.

The 350 I am aware of, and I believe it is ready for 2015.
