Sexy :wub: I figured Ford would screw this generation up, since basically every Mustang besides the original and the current gen have been pretty ugly.

It's been announced the new generation will have full IRS on every model. This is old news though. Also, I care what it looks like, and it looks stupid in my opinion. It's just a fusion :/

It has independent rear suspension, so you could call it and old suspension. It works.

This car still looks unmistakably Mustang'ish. Great job Ford!

Why no V8?

Too expensive, probably will be $35k. And the V6 would get much better gas mileage, and probably be about as fast as the old 4.6L I have when combined with the weight savings.

Why no V8?

The V6 is a good balance between fuel economy and power IMO. The current 3.7L Cyclone Duratech V6 puts out 5 more HP than the old 4.6L Modular V8. All be it with slightly less torque.

Mated to the new 6spd gearbox, you get about a 50% increase in power over the old V6 with a 20% increase in fuel economy. Comparing the old V8, you're sacrifice about 15% torque for the same 20% increase in efficiency. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I think the V6 is enough power for most people for street driving. Personally, I'd only get the V8 is I were going to the track on weekends. There is such a thing as too much power. That's when the engine gets too big to be practical for the type of driving you're doing.

It looks very similar to the current Mustang, just sleeker and with the headlights a bit more Fusion-ish. But if you look at the proportions, it's anything but a Fusion. Notice that it still has the cab-rearward musclecar proportions. Hell, it looks more like a mini Aston Martin than anything else.

The guys on the Mustang forums are excited about the IRS. That's definitely the improvement they're most interested in. I've seen quite a few posts saying things like "The one thing I don't like about my car is the solid axle" and "The IRS is worth waiting for". And I haven't seen a single post lamenting the loss of the solid axle.

C & D's tests of a 2005 GT and 2013 V6 yielded the same 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds and nearly identical 1/4 mile times and speeds.

A 2010 GT was only .1 second quicker to 60, and slightly better in the 1/4.

All probably inside the error bars.

The observed economy of the V6 was 21 vs 15/16 for the V8's.

Finally I think we are seeing the end of the "retro" styling trend that started back around 2000. I thought the retro styling of the Mustang was pretty good looking back in 2005, but now I am completely sick of it.
