Not to split hairs, but Tiptronic just means manumatic, the ones where you could shift gears by moving the shifter to a different +- gate. The first ones in the B5 Passat didn't have paddle shifters.

Yup, that's what I actually thought it meant. More of "Sports mode" by other brands. So, my claim of Tiptronic != DSG/DCT is correct, even from the beginning.

Think I found it

Tiptronic = not a DSG
S-tronic = DSG

But I think VW just flat out calls them DSG where as Audi will call them S-tronic. That's where my confusion was coming from. Both seem to call their automatics Tiptronic.

The new Golfs are looking great. The new Golf-R is my top pick on my car list when it comes stateside. Hot Hatch + AWD + high end appointments? Sign me up! (would have already had a WRX if they had allowed the Eyesight system in it)
