2015 Ducati Diavel

Not sure what type of way I feel about it. Seems really clean except for that first photo which screams "oversized scooter".

I guess bikes like those aren't really my bag anyways. The numbers on it are excellent, though.

Seems in the same vein as a zrx or z1000.

That genre of bike is a LOT of fun if you don't care about dragging knees. Some of my best memories are on, of all things, an intruder 800 with shortened forks and stiffer springs. Also had a tl1000s streetfighter with upright bars that was a blast.

It doesn't really look much different than the current Diavel, which I have ridden.

The Diavel actually handles and brakes quite well and it is fast as hell. The chassis is excellent and it is also pretty light for a cruiser. I just don't like the riding position. There is no wind protection and you really can't use your back or knees to help support your upper body and the faster you go, the worse it gets. Not good on a bike that is as fast as the Diavel is.

That is one ugly bike. I remember when Ducati's looks sweet.

Yeah, they look horrible now... 😛

i thought it sold poorly and Duc is gonna can it.

Breaking the sales figures down by categories, Ducati’s naked models accounted for slightly more than half of its total sales over the first three quarters. Sales of the various Diavel, Monster and Streetfighter models accounted for 18,558 motorcycles, or about 50.6% of all sales. Hypermotard and Multistrada models (including the Hyperstrada) sales make up 11,407 units while sportbike sales totaled 6,697 units for the first nine months of 2013.

If anything, I see the Hypermotard on the chopping block.

I didn't realize that Ducati was boutique manufacturer.

I don't think I'd call them a boutique manufacturer. The factory is pretty modern and they do have quite a bit of automation from what I've heard from people who have visited it and they don't really offer custom versions of their product.

I was looking at that chart thinking it was yearly production, not quarterly. 50k bikes is respectable.

Never been a big fan of the Diavel. Nice bike, just not my particular slice of bread.

That said, the modern factory episode show-casing the Ducati factory is pretty damn awesome to watch.

Ducati and Triumph both put out the same amount of bikes a year (~50k). Aprilia only put out between 3500-4000 in 2013.
