2015 Chevy Colorado... w/ diesel!!!

Ignoring the diesel option one, I'm wondering how this car will be. I thought the original ended up being a little underpowered and cheaply made, especially for what should have just been a small Silverado.

Interior looks kind of meh...

Any word on fuel economy with the diesel?

it looks better than any of our current smaller size pickup offerings, I am def. keeping an eye on this one for my next truck. I currently have a full size GMC.

Yeah, and with the way the full size pickups have gotten larger and larger, a company could do really well if they make a great pickup that slotted in between the old S10/Ford Ranger and the full size. I know there's the Tacoma but its long in the tooth and they really need a modern overhaul. I always thought the Dakota was decent at the time and I think that would make sense. A modern Ford Ranger with the range of engines that Ford makes now (Ecoboost 2.5 4, the 3.7 V6, 3.5 Ecoboost, and maybe even a performance version with the Coyote 5.0, they could even go two routes with it, one like the Raptor, and one like the old Lightning).

Not liking the base engine in this though. For me, a pickup should minimum have 200hp/250tq, give it a modern DI turbo 4. The extra power will actually probably help the average driver get better fuel economy and it will just plain be a lot better driving experience that will boost sales.

The Diesel is really interesting.

That's the kind of interior I like in a pickup.

I agree, looks good for a truck. Truck is about using, not looking at it. Good to have everything in drivers reach and easy to find an adjust.

Last thing you want is some BMW dial a wheel in a truck.

If that is your idea of a "meh" truck interior then I am apparently way out of the loop on truck interiors or your expectations and/or uses of a truck are not realistic. The truck I ride around in for work is an '06 and a complete stripper with manual windows/locks AM/FM radio and no cruise (which I absolutely lament on those far-away jobsites).

Not here to argue what a truck should be, as it seems like they are more status symbols than necessity, but to me a truck's interior should be at the absolute bottom of the checklist.

I guess you have to base your opinion on what the competition is offering, and it does seem like Ford, in particular, is upping the ante on what the inside of a truck should be. I am more of a GM guy myself, and agree the last Colorado was a POS compared to Toyota and Nissan's offerings.

Those are some damn good numbers, if we assume the Holden ones will translate here. Lots of torque is a big deal when hauling large payloads and pulling trailers.

Actually, if you look at pickups from like 1999-2014, a 15 year span, I think you'll find that most pickup trucks have grown very little in size, at least with wheelbase, OAL (overall length), and width. Well, at least with GM and Dodge. To illustrate, below are the measurements of a regular cab, short box truck from each U.S. manufacturer, one from 1999 and one from the current model year, 2014. You can extrapolate the other variations from these, I'd think. (Widths are measured without mirrors.)

1999 GM Silverado
Wheelbase: 119"
OAL: 203"
Width (w/o mirrors): 78.5"

2014 Silverado
Wheelbase: 119"
OAL: 205.6"
Width: 80"

So, the Silverado grew 2.6" in length and 1.5" in width in 15 years, not a huge increase.

1999 Dodge Ram
Wheelbase: 118.7"
OAL: 204.1"
Width: 79.4"

2014 Dodge Ram
Wheelbase: 120"
OAL: 209"
Width: 79.4"

Again, not a huge increase in any dimension over the last 15 years, 1.3" increase in wheelbase and 4.9" in length. Worse than GM, but not as bad as another brand........

Now, for the truck that's "grown up": the Ford F-150 (or should that be "blown up"?)

1999 F-150
Wheelbase: 119.9"
OAL: 202.2"
Width: 78.4"

2014 F-150
Wheelbase: 125.8"
OAL: 213.1"
Width: 79.2" (SVT Raptor is even wider at 86.3"!)

Good golly, Miss Molly! Ford has added almost 6" in wheelbase and 11" in length during the last 15 years while GM and Dodge have almost remained stagnant. So, I think a lot of the "larger and larger" is mostly illusory by creating more slab sided, hulking front ended trucks. Ford has done just what you've said, bigger and bigger. So, blame Ford.

And have you looked at an SVT Raptor in person? Damned thing is HUGE! Looks almost like a cartoon truck. Just over the top in so many ways. Needless.

Darned nice looking truck, inside and out.

You've got to understand Jules. He's sorta like Mickey...he hates darned near everything and will go to great lengths to make sure you understand that. Well, unless it's his preferred brand of motorcycle. 😉

Or a hybrid.

You omitted the height and the bed height. It's stupid tall. Throwing something over the side with any substantial weight doesn't work anymore.

I'd kind of be interested in a small pickup that could pull a trailered vehicle for track days.

It would be nice to put track pads, track tires, etc on a vehicle and then tow it to the track instead of driving it down there and driving it on the track with street equipment.

This one doesn't look particularly small though.

I read where it is about 900lbs lighter than the Silverado which is great, if accurate. However I am disappointed, but not surprised, there is no V8 option. The 5.3L would seem like a perfect fit.

I think it's a handsome truck. The interior looks nice and simple. I wonder what the plastics feel like. They're just pictures but it looks a bit lower-grade than the interiors of the new full size picksups, which are really nice.
