First week now underway so thought I'd toss up a thread.

Michigan looked good, not quite enough to win game 1.

Stanford looking like crap.

Looking to be a very good first weekend for the SEC. Not so much for BYU as they've lost the QB for the year.

Nice to see Florida with an offense again.

VT looking pretty packed tonight, we'll see how many are still there after halftime.

VT game looks sold out. Ohio State should be stacked this year with lots of returning talent.

Few surprising games this opening weekend:

1. Stanford looked like crap. If they win out and turn it around they can still make the playoff.
2. Freshman qb for UCLA is going to be a stud. He looked really sharp. Should have had that opening bomb if his wr hadn't dropped it. Right on the money in stride. They might take the pac12 if they play like that all year.
3. Big 12 struggled. Texas got embarrassed. Kansas got embarrassed. TCU played a good Minnesota team but shouldn't have struggled so much. Baylor had a bad first half. Maybe OU can be relevant this year? Conference needs it.
4. SEC looks good again so far. Think they're undefeated after the first week. This upcoming weekend will be another good test.

Nice comeback by VT in the 1st half. It looked initially like they were going to get spanked. It's a game now.

keep giving up the big play and it won't matter how well you're doing the other 55 minutes.

And that is likely game.

When doesn't Kansas get embarrassed. Man, Weiss left that team in horrible shape.

It was a great first weekend, but wish there were a few more upsets.

Report is that result from last night is a broken collarbone, likely out till deep into conference play.

Lot of key injuries this weekend: Brewer, BYU's QB, James Connor - Pitt, etc. Hell, even my beloved Syracuse Orange lost their starting QB mid-way through the first quarter with a torn Achilles'. This after being out for the last half season last year with a broken leg. It may have helped, though, freshman QB came in and looked pretty good.

Tennessee and Oklahoma in OT.

and Tennessee ends it by throwing a horrendous looking interception.

Mack Brown isn't laughing, and Texas didn't just fire their sophmore AD.

Semihole-BC game looking like it's going to be one decided at the wire.

My predictions:

Ohio State wires its head and ass together for a big win over a really good NIU team

Bama grinds out a close win with a run Henry ball control game plan

LSU dumps Auburn and it's even funnier than you'd think

Meatchicken loses to AF at home on some last minute interception and it's hilarious

and my upset special: Stanford over USC

:awe:

Well said. They have talent and deep, but dammit, they get sloppy sometimes.

But, then again, that is their M.O.: they look like shit for the first half, then they come out of the locker room and actually look like they belong at the top. This has been true since forever.

I'm thinking VT was a shake things out type of game, then Hawaii was a sloppy and jittery game after a very short week (only 4 days between game days). I think NIU is going to face a bull of a team today. Can't wait to see how they look after a solid week of preparation. NIU is no slouch though OSU should not have difficulty dispatching them. I hope for another shutout - gotta go for style points. :D

Such a crazy day. Urban saying he doesn't know who his starter is, cocks murdered by georgia, and after that last fluke TD by ole miss don't see how bama wins this one.

And texas, lololol.

Just caught the score update, USC down to stanford yikes.

And bama just pulled within 6.....

and they immediately give up a soul crushing TD.

Ugh, I swear, my Syracuse Orange can't catch a break...ever. Lose our starting QB 1st quarter of the first game of the year, have a true freshman come in and he's lighting things up until midway 2nd quarter of this weeks game when he gets cheap-shotted by a CMU defensive lineman. Out for the game. Don't know when he's coming back. We had to use a 4th string walk-on QB to win in OT. sigh....

Here is a pic of the play before he gets hit. Notice #44 is looking at him, at least three yards away, the ball CLEARLY out of his hand:

Here is the progression of the play:

Helmet down, right on the side of a defenseless player. I'm a big
proponent of football and allowing guys to risk themselves by playing it. But, this guy crossed the line and should not be playing ever again.

I read about it and watched the video on ESPN.

Damn, I tried to look for a way one might argue it was an accident. But, I couldn't find one. That was targeting, clear as day.

A one-game ejection is not justice for that kind of play. The way his head and neck moved as he was going down, that could have been a career if not life ending moment. There is no place in football for that kind of behavior.

That's Suh territory, and I still cannot believe Suh is allowed to play after the shit he's done.
