Lol, that show takes more chances, so sometimes it misses, but I give it mad props for originality and, yeah, I like it. I'm guessing you don't?

Can't say, never watched either. But the write up's were similar enough to give it that probability :D

Yet...in spite of some fairly popular shows being cancelled.....CBS has renewed Scorpion for a 3rd season...

I WANT to like that show...I really do. The concept is good...but OMFG! It's so poorly written and acted that I wanted it to die after just a couple of episodes.

It's like..."We can throw an insurmountable challenge at the team, then use a few "smart sounding words and do something TOTALLY stupid...and it will solve the problem."

I could only last 5-6 episodes before giving up mostly because of her voice.

Gonna miss my weekly Robert Patrick fix, they need to revive The Unit.

+1. I watched the first season, most of it anyway, because it was popular and I felt like I was missing something if I didn't. But it was always one of the last things I would watch because it was so painful.

Finally for Season 2 I kept recording it but would force myself to delete it. Haven't watched a single episode as far as I can remember. Maybe early in the season.

Money Money Money!

1 percenters rejoice, Billions renewed.

Billions just concluded its first season. I expected to dislike this show when it first stared, but it wasn't at all bad. A lot of cliches, a lot of multi-million dollar deals boiled down to something that could be explained in 15 seconds. But good TV drama of the kind made for Showtime/HBO/Netflix.

At first, I didn't think Damian Lewis was right for the part, but that's because I didn't understand the character. He was perfect. There's a great old money vs. new money subplot to this story. New money billionaire buys his name onto a building in an old school university. Old money Attorney General going after him while making jack shit money at his job. Old money has Daddy and Daddy has senator and congressman friends and club memberships. Cool dynamic. Not to mention Paul Giamatti taking the acting to another level.

If you get the chance, watch it.

I enjoyed Billions too. The cat and mouse stalking was interesting and while you could see some of the plot "twists" coming from a mile away, that was fine because somehow, you still managed to be surprised.

The one thing I wish they would have explained better was the visceral hatred that Giamatti's character had for Axe. You got the idea that it had to do with Giamatti's father and so there was an old debt to be repaid, but I don't think they ever dealt with the issue specifically. You can argue that this was find be cause it didn't really detract from the story and I'd probably go along with that.

I also loved the kinky side story. In one of the opening scenes in the first episode, they show his wife pissing on him while he's hog tied. And I think that ongoing theme gives you some insight into what sort of person Giamatti is.

But there were other problems with the show. For example the idea that Giamatti's wife was some sort of magical trader whisperer was a little hard to believe but once you accepted that, their use of her in the story was consistent.

Overall, I enjoyed it but that was due in no small part to the actors they chose. The only one I didn't really like was Axe's wife.

I watched about 15 minutes of one episode of Scorpion, and then gave up on it forever. The description made it seem like it was going to be a show I would like, but that 15 minutes convinced me otherwise.

I also have stopped watching Blindspot and Quantico. Blindspot was kinda stupid to begin with, but has been getting progressively more stupid. Quantico is just too much soap opera.

Ironically, I'm still watching Supergirl. It's somewhat stupid too, but it's lightweight stupid and I find it amusing. They make fun of themselves in the dialogue, like Cat Grant turning down a date with Harrison Ford because she doesn't date older men.

I want to like the next season of Orphan Black and it starts this week, but that's been getting pretty stupid too. I'm giving it a bit of leeway though, since the first season was very good, and it's a local production too.

I enjoyed Billions too.

I ended up watching the whole thing, finally, after first letting the eps pile on the DVR. It was less sloppy and insulting to your intelligence than Tyrant, I'll give it that.

...you could see some of the plot "twists" coming from a mile away...
Only a mile? Corrective eyewear, stat! ;)

...that was fine because somehow...

Keep telling yourself that! :p

...you still managed to be surprised.

Speak for yourself.

The one thing I wish they would have explained better was the visceral hatred that Giamatti's character had for Axe.

Another poster here nailed that. It was the old money vs hard scrabble upstart thang, on both sides, as underscored at the end of the last ep where Axe tried to recruit Giamatti's underling.

I also loved the kinky side story. In one of the opening scenes in the first episode, they show his wife pissing on him while he's hog tied.

I didn't. It felt tacked on for cheap effect, and with no back story to give it any depth or plausibility at all. However, it did provide a vulnerability for Axe to use, plot-wise.

But there were other problems with the show. For example the idea that Giamatti's wife was some sort of magical trader whisperer was a little hard to believe but once you accepted that, their use of her in the story was consistent.

Hahahahahahaha . . . pause for breath . . . hahahahahahaha, "magical trader whisperer," yeah! So unrealistic and phony. No psychologist/therapist works in the ridiculously unreal "I'm going to fix you in a one session 'adjustment'" manner she did.

Overall, I enjoyed it but that was due in no small part to the actors they chose.

Giamatti, the consistently over-the-top scenery chewer, did his thing, to the extent that there are probably outtakes where he's burping up parts of the set.

He's an acquired taste. To me, he's Jon Lovitz sans the irony. Some people like a bit of whipped cream on top of their sundae. Others use Cool Whip . . . lots and lots of Cool Whip. :(

Hey, I watched, what can I say? Billions is a fine example of what it is. Giamatti is a fine example of what he does. And Agent Orange is fine example of what it is, too.

Lucifer got renewed? They lost me after the first episode. Hmmm... Maybe it got better after the first episode.

It's rather entertaining. In my department at work it is watched by a large age range of both men and women viewers. Not at all surprised it was renewed...

I would say the issue with scorpion is how it is presented. It feels like a soap opera drama, with them intentionally slowing down the pace to allow the 'average' viewer to keep pace. If it was at a more reasonable speed and not unnecessarily paused so often it would probably be better.

CBS seems to think that intellect is not part of all of us to varying degrees but a separate species.

I like Limitless. But not because I necessarily find their stories make much sense. I like it because of the humour and the leading actors.

Big Bang Theory I watched for a few seasons and liked it then, but haven't watched it since.

But like I said, I couldn't sit through even a single episode of Scorpion.

I've said it before, and I will say it again, I don't get how anyone can stomach 99.9% of broadcast TV shows. They are all horrendous.

The thing that bugs me about Scorpion is just how logically implausible things are, and in some cases, they're so obvious to anyone with half a brain. On this past week's episode, they're trying to find "bookmarks" left in code, and the kid exclaims that he has millions of lines of code to look through. I could have maybe ignored the whole "millions of lines of code" being written by a single kid for a collegiate science project part if they at least made some mention of using automated OCR (optical character recognition) scanning to process the printed code, but nope!

Because television is the opiate of the masses. I know, you've always been told it was religion. Religion can only dream of being as popular and loved as tv.

And whether you're talking television, dope, pizza or sex, even the crappy stuff is still pretty good.

I think Dr. Ken is dead.

Ken Jeong was on the Daily Show and he accidentally said "series finale" before correcting to "season finale."

I can see a British person making that mistake...

Note that's a Prime Video plan, for anyone who thought they might subscribe and also get Prime's shopping benefits.

Which can also be had for $3 more. It's not worth it either way.
$2 more, and, for a one month binge or viewing and buying, either plan could definitely be worth it, imho:

Starting today, the company is launching two new subscription plans: a monthly Prime membership plan for $10.99 and a monthly Prime Video membership plan for $8.99. Neither subscription requires an annual commitment.
