This is what happens when you decimate the middle class.

The women that were their customer base are relegated to the Dollar store now.

Cosmetics maker Avon Products to cut about 600 jobs

Cosmetics maker Avon Products Inc said it would cut about 600 jobs, including in its North America unit, as the company struggles to return to profit.

The direct seller of cosmetics, which has posted losses in five of the past six quarters, had about 36,700 employees, including 4,300 in the United States

Sales in North America fell 22 percent in the quarter as its products faced competition from inexpensive beauty items at drugstores or from chains such as Sephora.

Funny how you always leave out important parts of the article.

Deere & Co, the world's largest maker of farm equipment, said it would indefinitely lay off more than 600 employees at plants in Illinois, Iowa and Kansas as falling grain prices hurt demand for tractors, harvesters and other agricultural machinery.

The company reported a 5 percent drop in third-quarter sales on Wednesday and cut its full-year profit forecast.

What difference does that information make? 600 good paying jobs are now gone, possibly permanently. Replaced by what? Unemployment and McService jobs....assuming that those people can find them.

Dave made no comment one way or another as to why the jobs were let go.

Of course it makes a difference, if grain prices rise over the next year and demand for equipment increase people can be called back to work.

You're throwing an "if" situation into hard core facts that 600 people were 'indefinitely' let go. Your information changes nothing about what Dave posted. I could say that if grain prices collapse even more, Deere can let 600 more go. Let's see if executive compensation gets cut because of these lower numbers:

Quoted for reference:

Samuel R. Allen/Chairman and Chief Executive Officer 5,610,143 13,323,520 18,802,364 19,031,943 19,148,372

Year by year starting 2009 though 2013.

Wall Street, and their demands for higher profits AT ANY COST, are killing the US middle class. Of course, much of Wall Street is made up of CEO's who own huge amounts of stock and swing from board to board to take care of their buddy CEO's.

Makes me feel a little guilty that some, that is some of those layoffs may increase the profits of some companies which can be good for my stocks and funds.

I am not surprised to see Zynga fall after the introduction of new developers and a loss of share in the Facebook game industry. They fail to make original games and people are starting to get over the same old type of games they make as well as use different types of apps.

For the others it seems they failed to compete with changes in technological competitors.

Most of those companies are fairly old and i'm sure millions of jobs are being created by innovative smaller businesses.

Although this is a fall, I don't think we will have another recession for quite some time.

We'd have a crash before another recession anyways so keep your money and assets as liquid as possible.

Chicago Hostess Twinkie plant closing – again

The hostess Twinkie plant in suburban Schiller Park is going to close ending an 84-year run.

The closing will affect some 400-employees.

The plant will shutter in mid-October and is one of four remaining hostess bakeries in the country.

The new owners who acquired Hostess last summer by bringing the company out of bankruptcy say the closing is necessary to better compete in the market place and with more streamlined production facilities at its other plants.

Twinkies were invented in the Chicago area in 1930.

Did the workers take a pay cut as a result of the buyout? I forgot what the result was after they went on strike.

8,000 jobs lost

Sorry folks, praying is not going to create jobs.

Casino workers turn to prayer to save their jobs

Clergy members and the main casino workers union organized a rally and prayer service Wednesday night for the nearly 8,000 workers who will be jobless when Revel, the Showboat and Trump Plaza close down over the next few weeks.

The shutdowns are part of a rapid unraveling of Atlantic City's gambling market, which began the year with 12 casinos but will have eight before summer ends.

The Atlantic Club closed in January. Showboat is closing Aug. 31, followed by Revel on Sept. 1-2 and Trump Plaza on Sept. 16.

EMS service to lay off 361 workers in central Indiana

An Arizona-based emergency medical services company plans to lay off as many as 361 employees in central Indiana as it ends most of its ambulance services in the state.

"We were losing millions in Indiana. It wasn't a very good market for us," Mark Lashley, Rural/Metro's east division president, told IBJ on Thursday.

“Larger amounts of unpaid indigent care and low Medicaid reimbursement rates within Indiana have created a difficult business environment leading to this decision”

No. Ambulance Company needs to make a profit or there is no Ambulance Company. Maybe when Unicef gets in the Ambulance business things will be different.....

Microsoft to layoff 18,000

Microsoft Corp will close its Silicon Valley research-and-development operation as part of 2,100 layoffs announced on Thursday, as it moves toward its new CEO's goal of cutting 18,000 staff, or about 14 percent of its workforce.

News of the closure of the Microsoft Research lab at the company's campus in Mountain View, California, was first made public on Twitter by employees. The company later confirmed the move and said it would involve the loss of 50 jobs.

So, they're losing millions of dollars and you expect them to give away services?

Dave is just the left's version of Texashiker. Sometimes I wonder if they are the same person.
