2014 911 gt3 faster around a track than a mclaren mp4-12c

GT3 is half-way to a track special. Manual gearbox not required. Paddles are faster on the track, and safer.

Opposed to that are the paddles in the RS Clio. There they are much more debatable.

Oh, also the Turbo S is out. That looks like a scarily not-scary machine. Sure, the GTR will always eclipse it as a value proposition, but the Porsche is supposed to have that extra something. And a better cabin.

Edmunds thinks the Carrera S is a better car. Plus you get to save $80k. http://www.edmunds.com/porsche/911/2014/road-test1.html

Well, yeah, as a an every day car, the Carrera S is plenty fast, and a just a bit sharper and more fun than the turbo.
Much like a GT86 is more fun than, say, a GT-R. The Turbo is for the lazy person that wants to go very fast. Where the S is a sports car, the Turbo is more of a GT, trading some maneuverability for that ultimate ease in overtaking. And it can still dish it out on the track.

Turbo power with a more sporty approach will be in the GT2. Which usually ends up scary.

All the 991s are so easy and boring. It feels like a Panamera inside (the visibility, overall bulk of the front and rear etc.) Good thing it has all those cameras and sensors to make it driveable in a tight space. 🙁 Reminds me of a GTR when you sit in the seat, not a 911.

My favorite of all the GT3s was this modded 996 GT3:

We had it at about 460 HP, as much torque as the 4.0 cars, no traction control and it was as raw as you could get. Of course the 997 GT3 / RS are more balanced and from the factory, and sound better. 🙂 These were all drivers' cars. This 991 car is faster but no way it's going to be as fun as the 996/997 GT3, at least Porsche will make some money on it. RIP GT1 engine and manual box. Now it's all about ring times and electronic assistance. It's unfortunate but it had to go this way.

Me too. That test drive vid got my blood going. I was never an enthusiast, so the whole thing was impressive.
