If it doesn't matter to you what people think, something is probably wrong with your brain. The lack of "rich showoff" connotation with the Viper is just a really nice bonus.

Does it matter to me? Hmm... No, no it doesn't. My life doesn't revolve around the automotive purchasing opinions of others.

If they think you look like a douche in a Lambo, you'll still look like a douche in the Viper. Sorry, tough break. D:

:eek::thumbsup:

I'm not going to lie, I was disappointing with the engine note there. It sounds good, but not what I was expecting to hear. To me, it sounds more like a Mustang GT being shifted around at around 4k (again, not a bad sound at all). I kept waiting for that "ok he's really going to open it up here" moment, but it just never came (even worse I was able to tell he WAS opening it up when I heard a quick bump off the rev limiter). Personally I love a howl at the top end to compliment the rumble on the low end. I was expecting something a little more along the lines of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5zQkzG6SVU

Im not sure I like it. It looks like they tried to take the coolest look from every model year and combine it in one car. Almost makes it look cobbed together sort of rather than a nice flowing body line with some accents. Not sure Id want it even if I could afford it.

So you'd drive a hot pink New Beetle without embarassment?

How about this?

Why would I be embarrassed over the vehicle I'm driving? I wouldn't drive the bottom, whatever it is, because *I* don't like it, to hell with what others think. If someone didn't like the fact I was driving a Lambo or Ferrari, just because they're expensive exotic cars, they can gargle my ballsack. A hot pink New Beetle? A VR6 or turbo with a 6-spd manual? Sure.

If I were given a hot pink 458, I'd drive it every day.

That's pretty typical Viper sound. They aren't known for a particularly inspiring exhaust note. IMO it grows on you, but the big V8's undeniably sound better.

No, it's not that they're expensive cars, it's that they're typically driven by douchebags who aren't really car enthusiasts, just looking to show off wealth.

I've encountered many more car enthusiasts driving exotics, because of the expense and dedication involved with keeping them. Douchebags are typically backyard tuners who haven't got a clue what they're doing.

If someone's jealous because a guy or girl has enough cash to buy a nice sports car, then f*ck `em, that's their problem. I saw a Koenigsegg CCX in Palm Beach and I complimented man on the car, then he popped the hood so I could check it out and even let me sit in the driver's seat and rev the motor a little. That sure wouldn't have happened If I'd walked up and called him a wanker.

Seriously? Does politics and the opinion of others mean so much to you that you'd worry about that? I can't imagine living that way, it must be tiring.
Are you saying it doesn't for people who spend a couple hundred grand on a car and never take it faster than I've taken a family sedan? For most buyers of a lambo it's totally about image, they don't know what the hell they are doing in it really. I do think the douche factor is much higher on an exotic than a Viper, which is not quite into exotic territory IMO, even if it's as fast as they.

we had a couple of ferraris at autocross once. apparently they left after one of them hit a cone

OTOH, we have a dude with a GTR and as far as i can tell he's pretty damn cool.

A buddy of mine owned a Noble. Forgot the model number, but the Hamster loves it. Anyway, I saw it being delivered to Chicago. On the bottom of an Airbus as bulk cargo on a passenger flight. We probably looked like arms dealers waiting on a delivery. (yes, I have watched too many movies).
It came in a massive crate, and was later assembled by people with funny accents.
Not a douche either.
The biggest douche marque in all the land is Porsche, yet all the Porsche folks I know are the coolest people on earth.
These guys are race car builders that build stuff that tear up the tracks up and down the east coast. Genuinely good people.

Okay maybe one dude from high school that owns a Porsche. But there is always a token douche in the herd.

That's anecdotal and hasn't been my experience at all.
