The 2012/2013 NFL season is just around the corner. Can never come too soon! And I'm back with my yearly prediction thread. You can see how I fared last year. I think I did pretty good. Got the Superbowl winner wrong :( but! I picked the Pats to lose in the superbowl game, predicted the Eagles would suck despite all the crazy hype, and predicted the lions getting in the playoffs via a wildcard spot. So overall did pretty good.

But that's all in the past. Let's get on with the 2013 Superbowl picks. This year I foresee a team making it's first ever Superbowl appearance, and another team that hasn't been there for over 25 years. No usual suspects this year (Sorry Pittsburgh, Greenbay, New England, NYGiants)

Because this year, It will be the Houston Texans vs San Fransisco 49ers with San Fransisco taking home the Lombardi Trophy.

Houston has a great all around team while San Fran's defense is just nasty, and their offense, which may only be a few notches better than last year, will be enough to get the job done. Both teams are in terrible divisions and Houston has a very easy schedule. The 49ers also have a somewhat easy schedule (not nearly as easy as Houston) but they will be tested against some solid teams.

Houston will beat Baltimore in the AFC championship and San Fran will beat Green Bay in the NFC championship game. Then again picking the division championships was never my thing.

And as always, all above predictions are based on players/teams staying healthy which is certainly never guaranteed in the NFL. Also all predictions are subject to change before the season opener (Sept 5th), might also throw in some other random predictions before then. Once the season starts, all my predictions are then set in stone!

Who do you see in the Superbowl this season?

fuster: While I'd like to see Baltimore make it all the way to the AFC championship again I'm honestly kind of skeptical that they'll even get into the playoffs. They're probably headed for a year or two of "rebuilding."

Even Warner was pretty elite (winning 2 league MVPs) during that stretch of "Greatest Show on Turf" Rams teams.

Both TB and BAL won with Elite defenses and an ok running game rather than elite QBs. SF is playing elite level defense, has a great RB, a high quality corp of receivers, and a serviceable QB. I think they have what it takes to win without an elite QB.

Steelers vs Niners

I'm going to have to disagree on the Steelers. New offensive coordinator and 2 rookies on the O line and one of them David DeCastro out 3 to 5 months. Rashard Mendenhall still out and not sure when he will be back. Isaac Redman has a hip injury but will play. Then you got Mike Wallace thinking he is as good a Larry Fitzgerald and his ego making him sit out all of preseason.

Then the Steelers cut some veterans on D such as James Farrior and defensive end Aaron Smith which were a key part in making the D so good. The Steelers are in a simi rebuilding year and I see the Steelers going 8/8 9/7.

IMO this is Cincinnati's year to win the AFC North. I'm predicting weaker than average seasons from Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

Hard for me to pick this year. I think the NFC has the three best teams in the league - GB, NYG, and SF. only one of them can win. Out that I give the nod to the best offense. GB.

AFC is much fuzzier...Houston and Baltimore on paper appear the most balanced. If Houston is healthy they are deadly on offense. Baltimore has more veterans on defense and only has a sliver of daylight left on that window of opportunity before Ray & Ed are walking corpses. So they may be motivated this year.

Pats are just getting older, and older and older. Brady will put up some points but I just don't see them as strong enough to get all the way. Pitt is busted up and in a bit of a funk. Jets look HORRIBLE in preseason. Denver is a bit of a dark horse. Let's see if that Defense rallies around Peyton like they did for Tebow at the end of the year.

If I had to say....GB vs Baltimore
GB overall.

People always bring this up, but Ray Lewis and Ed Reed have been past their prime for a long time. IMO Terrell Suggs's injury is going to be a MUCH bigger factor for the Ravens this year than either Reed or Lewis's ability.

I still think GB is still the most over rated team out there. Last year they play teams with the worst D in the league that made them look so good on O. They have no D and that is why the won't get anywhere. I think SF has the best chance with there D and they have s pretty good O.

I always hated Ariens as the offensive coordinator, so I'm hopeful that nothing but good will come from the switch. The O-Line has always sucked in their previous superbowl winning seasons, so that's not a huge concern. I've always seen Mendenhall as a dissapointment. He's always injured and even when he's not he's average at best. Wallace will be on his game this year since he's playing for a contract with or without the steelers. Aaron Smith was a huge run stuffer, but he was out injured as well. I think this year will be business as usual for the Steelers. (Which lately has been blowing it in the playoffs :'()

no problem. i predict the Chicago bears will win it.

I approve this message!

Ditka is going to come out of retirement when Lovie Smith gets injured telling us Wrecks is our quarterback.

Ditka will then go on to a undefeated season where no opposing team gets a first down.

Yeah Greenbay's defense was a big letdown last year, giving up a league worst 411.6 yards per game. This year they have 6 rookies coming in on defense so I don't see a big improvement there.

I was all about picking the Bears about a month ago but Cutler is too big of a question mark. They should have a good season, though. Would like to see Urlacher get a ring before he retires, which will be somewhat soon.

You're either joking, misguided or down-right insane. Kurt Warning is going to the HOF on his first ballot, not because of his rags-to-riches success story but because he was one of the most prolific passers of his time. He has 2 MVPs, 1 SB MVP, and still holds the the top 3 passing performances in SB history.. the TOP 3. He took 2 different teams to the SB, including a Cardinals team that had no defense and no business being there, and if not for a miracle drive by Rapelisberger he would have another SB win under his belt.
