why is that? i dont recall having issues with uplay when i wanted to play anno (or far cry or an AC game), besides needing to wait for uplay to update itself from time to time

Just me complaining more than anything. it installed everything , including DLC and whatnot, so the process took forever. and then the uplay stuff had to install, register... took forever.

its a one time only thing... i actualy like the little things i could see of uplay... they give you points for getting achievements and then you can spend those points to unlock stuff.... its a petty good system if you ask me

Getting really lucky with Fallen Enchantress and have gotten 2 foils so far. There are only a couple others on the market, both for $10+. Do people actually pay that much for these foil cards ?

That is a bunch of cheapo games or one good one on a daily deal if they sell for $10 😀

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Valve basically buys licenses in bulk from publishers. It will depend on whether they pay flat rate/'commission' and up front/over time, but if Valve wanted to give free copies of already owned bundled games, I think they could.

If Valve paid for their licenses up front or negotiated a flat rate, the publisher then actually would see zero impact from free copies of the game going out, they're off the hook financially. The only semi-tangible impact would be the perceived value of said game as impacted by some players getting it for free; but I think that pales in comparison to the psychological effect of the sales themselves.

But it isn't in Valve's best interest of course. And while it could conceivably not be a financial risk to the publisher, I think they would still incur an opportunity cost compared to other contractual option.

Valve doesn't buy licenses. When they sell a game, they get a 30% cut from the sale. There have been only a few times where if you bought a bundle you would get the extra game you already owned. Valve does this with their own bundle, but when they have had special indie event it has happened a couple of times as well. It is a decision up to the publisher/dev not Valve.

Sangfroid looks cool. No pun intended?

It is a cool game. Can be hard as you need to plan out your strategy before hand, but has a nice charm to it and is a good game overall imo.

I watched the video of the dev playing a whole turn (one day, one night). He obviously knows what he's doing so he breezed through it all very quickly. In your experience, how long does each turn take, and what happens if you fail? You just reload a save? Or more serious, long term consequences?

If you look at the graph when you go to sell one, that shows the prices people actually bought them for, so I would assume yes..

Crazy, I know. I think I saw one of the emoticons or some other equally trivial piece of fluff had actually sold for $40 !

I haven't played much simply because I haven't had much time but the amount of time it takes varies. It varies by how much preplanning you do. Because when you actually initiate the event it goes pretty quickly, but the planning stage can take a little bit depending on amount of thought you put into your strategy, but overall it isn't too long I'd say. As for failing, I dunno, I didn't fail yet, but I think I watched a video and saw a person fail and you just reloaded, which makes sense because if you fail people/things you are trying to protect are destroyed/killed and would severely limit the characters reason for continuing on lol.

iirc Totalbiscuit did a wtf of it and while he is absolutely horseshit terrible at puzzle/strategy games the video gave a fair overview of what the game is like.

He did, thanks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__IMV0bpxCI

I guess I'll bite...dammit that one was unintentional too...don't worry though, no puns were harmed in any of my Sangfroid-related posts.

So let me get this straight....yesterday TLII was $3.74....today it's on "sale" for $4.99?

Since the sale has started, CoDMW3 has been 25% off....now it's a daily deal at a whoping 50% off?

Sigh.

This just doesn't excite me.

Yeah they seem to be pretty confused :\

I think you're mistaken on Torchlight II. 75% is the steepest discount it's seen this sale.

I agree it's not super exciting but I do think these two are good/solid deals for quality games compared to their price history and expected pricing future.

I think the original Torchlight was 3.74 and Torchlight 2 was 4.99 yesterday (same as today), but I could be mistaken. Here's the Steamgamesales link for Torchlight 2: http://www.steamgamesales.com/d6g8c/torchlight-ii, which says 4.99 is the cheapest it's been. So if you missed it the other day (like I did) it's not a bad time to jump on it.

I also think the COD games usually take a long time to drop below $19.95 and this is a first for MW3, as shown on that Steamgamesales link: http://www.steamgamesales.com/bZ8le/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3. I think the 17.49 from last summer didn't really happen. Whatever you think about the COD series, they are very popular and while I don't like to pay full price for them, I don't like to miss them either.

So, ultimately, I'm pretty sure this is the lowest price ever for both of those games on Steam and I think it will be a while before they get much cheaper, so I think I'm actually going to purchase both of those games today. Torchlight 2 might drop lower at the winter sale, but I really enjoyed the original Torchlight and 4.99 is a very reasonable price for such a deep game.

I played through Episode One last night and enjoyed it thoroughly. The atmosphere was reminiscent of Silent Hill 2, which is fine by me.

I just wish the textures were better.
