Im liking the car and diggin the headlights.

Well proportioned, nice lines, good styling cues stolen from other models. A MAJOR improvement IMO.

I dont like the headlights. LOL. I didnt even notice them... you guys have "Pointy Elbows" syndrome.

261 HP, yuck. That car needs at least 400 HP. For the price of one of those I'd rather get a Camaro ZL1 or a Mustang Cobra.

true, but one of those is a Chevrolet and the other is a Ford. This is a Porsche.

DING DING DING

A lot of people who buy the car don't care about the HP, it's Porsche and that is all they really care about. Then there are people like Exdeath who’s car has more HP than 99.9% of all people out there.....heh

Found this interesting. It's the boxter concept car from 1993 auto show.

I don't like how the front looks like pursed lips, and I don't like the weird spoiler that cuts through the taillights. Other than that it looks good.

I've got a PDK Cayman S, and it's plenty fast enough for the streets. Quarter mile at 12.8 seconds:

and 0-60 at 4.5 seconds:

How much faster do you need when everything around you are Camrys and Accords?

so do you use launch control and sports chrono plus all the time so you can achieve those numbers? its ok fast on the streets but it could use more power, the only reason porsche won't let our 987s have more power is that it'd compete with the carrera

Beyond the badge thing, the driving experience on this thing is simply very different than most other cars. It's so light and agile, and when you are really working the chassis on a public road - not drag racing it, that is - the power it has is most than enough.

My thoughts exactly. I actually have not driven the Boxster, but I have driven a colleagues Cayman S on several occasions and it was brilliant...and it was a 2008 before they bumped the HP over 300. It felt at least as fast as my E46 M3, but much more nimble.

If you wanna get a Porsche, do it right and get a Turbo S or GTFO!

Yeah yeah, I know not everybody's got 160K to throw around.

But serious, that's one good looking entry level Porsche.

It's a mid engine platform superior to the rear engine 911 platform.

The only thing "entry level" about it is Porsche's PR and marketing and refusing to put a better engine in it.

what ticks me off is how top gear has perpetuated the stigma that the boxster is a "poser porsche" while praising the mid-tier car. the boxster has always been the spiritual successor to the classic porsche roadsters, including the jamesdeanmobile, while the cayman is certainly 3/4 the 911 at a more popular 3/4 price. not to say it isn't a fine car that i would immensely enjoy, but i'd choose another to live with.

Have you been to Germany? Every German I have ever met thinks the Boxster or the Cayman are the "Poser" or the "Girly" Porsche. The only "manly" Porsche to have is a 911 variant. This is not a Top Gear thing...this is prevalent around the globe.

Nearly every person I work with gives my colleague a hard time about his Cayman S because of this. I think it is ridiculous...I'd buy a Cayman/Boxster in a heartbeat.

Next time someone says "poser Porsche" ask them where THEIR Porsche is... watch them be in a Corolla or something

It’s like Jeremy Clarkson said, if you are at a stop light in a boxster or cayman and a 911 pulls next to you. It’s like being at a urinal and having a racing horse come up next to you.

“Nooo DON’T LOOK AT ME NOOOO!”

That's why you put a 911 engine in the Boxster. Totally worth it just to see the look on their face as they feel their penis shrinking when it sets in that things are not going as planned.

It's sad how artificial tiering and market segmentation prevents some amazing cars at amazing prices from ever seeing the light of day. All because a few smug weenies would start crying that it's no fair someone else that makes $1/hr less than them has an equally fast or faster car.

And there's why god gave us V8's with superchargers. :awe:

That's funny because German men tend to dress in such a way that I usually assume they're homosexuals when I see them on vacation here, until I hear them talk.

So they think a Boxster is girly but they wear capri pants??

That's just European's in general in terms of dress.

It is the same to them as the V6 vs. V8 mustang is to us. "Why get a Mustang if you're not getting the V8" is often repeated in the US (not saying I agree...just saying it is a common argument). Over there, they don't see why you would buy a Porsche if you are not buying a 911.

Yep, it's the old, general rule of more displacement more power. It's usually true. Although I think it would be great fun to run Porsches old 1.4 flat 6 turbo a@ 370 HP engine or their 2.0 4cyl NA at 300hp. That was back in the 70s too.

I know a lot of people think, "Well those engines were super tuned." When they really were not, when the engines listed above were super tuned they were putting out 1500hp.

If I had a boxster with a 1.4l 370HP engine in it I would put a huge badge on the back that said 1.4l so peoples heads exploded when I passed them.

Well, if you put it that way, then I agree. You can also substitute "Camaro" or "Challenger" for "Mustang" in that sentence too. 🙂

It's always nice to compare EPA nerfed modern engines that run on 87 octane unleaded and pass emissions to engines running 150 octane leaded race gas 😉

1500 HP out of 1.4L is going to require boost and compression not achieveable on a emissions passing "neuter blend" pump gas street car in the year 2012.

Yea well, we can dream. That 1.4 was made in 77 so it's old enough so it does not have to pass emissions anymore at least in Cali, just need some 150 octane stuff!.....Just think if they could get that out of a 1.4l... Then although I do not know the displacement of your engine. Lets assume it's a 5.0. In theory you could be sitting on 5357 HP. What would you do with that. I don't think that would be even be drivable, if you sneezed you might send yourself into orbit.

Idk why you insist that MR is superior to RR when there are many cases where it isn't. Namely acceleration and braking. :colbert:
