2013 Honda Accord - Your take

we've had 2 accords and 3 civics in the "family" and even my wife said no more Hondas. We are very satisfied with her Sonata so far. Great value (nice included features), 5-star safety (which I think only the 5-series has in a mid-size), and top warranty.

One other thing I would mention is to stay away from first-year runs after a redesign. If it's not mechanical it could be fitment or electronic issues that drive you up the wall.

I don't see any reason why the new Accord would perform worse.....
 
Regarding Honda transmission failures:

The only huge issue with Honda transmissions were due to not building them to withstand torque and any heat or general stress associated with it in the rides they were produced for.

I actually sort of hand a birds eye view of the problem unfolding in the late 90's.

The problem first became apparent with tuners installing Comptech superchargers in 98-01 V6 Accord's. Transmissions became shot left and right -- QUICKLY. Even non-modded V6 Accord's failed but at a later date. I4 Accord's did not suffer a similar fate.

It wasn't until V6 Odyssey transmissions 99-05'ish (95-98 were I4 rides) or so began to prematurely fail as well, sometimes MULTIPLE times within warranty. Around circa 05/06 Honda introduced a strengthened transmission capable of withstanding their V6 engines.

Honda-matic, what not, is not a failed design. With regular maintenance (i.e., fluid changes) they'll last over 300k miles again, and again. (I've done it and I've beat the poor piss out of them and they keep going) The problem with the transmissions mated up to early Honda V6 engines were that they were not built strong enough.

Don't have to believe me, I know what's up so I don't care. =)
 
I dunno...something to do with the type of spare tire? Full/compact/kit only?


Nah, it's passenger space that the EPA is fluctuating, not cargo space, and I'm looking at the SRT model, it hasn't had a spare available in a long time (though the 2012 model does have an option to fill the hole with audio equipment).
 
Indeed, for a four that's very solid. Fuel mileage looked kinda crappy though, they only managed 22 out of it..

That's what happens when you drive any car hard.

They averaged just 26 with the new Altima CVT, below it's city rating.

Looks like the Honda is just as quick as the Fusion 2.0T.

After owning an Honda Odyssey 2007 for 5 years, and reading Honda forums for that long, I think your post makes a lot of sense.

I have read most complaints from users having Odysseys prior to 2007.
 
I am just thrilled it still can be had with a stick, and Honda has passed on the high beltline, tiny window stupidity that afflicts almost everything else. I like to see out of the car without cameras, am I the only one left?

No stick with the V6 is disappointing, as is the EPS, but those are universal in the segment now.
 
I testdrove it this past week. The speedometer is unnecessarily hard to read with the seat not all up on the steering wheel like a granny. I'm not sure why the sp'meter has to go to 160 mph (I wonder what the CVT sounds like at 160) when they could have put less fantasy numbers and spread out the tiny hash marks...

Also, the no-split back seat in a family sedan is a fail ...

edit: My take on the speedometer is a first impression since I have not driven the Accord before, regardless of prior incarnations...

Jaw dropping and incredible. On paper the car looks damn impressive. Styling looks respectable. And it has what is probably a butter smooth tranny. This car looks hard to beat for its value. Good job, Honda.

Looks like I found my next DD.

My exact thought since november of last year!

The speedometer is no different than the previous incarnations in size and 160. I will semi-agree with you on the no split back seat but how often does one actually use that feature anyway? Leave the damn kids at home if you're lugging 2x4s from Home Depot. Hardly an issue.

Manual is available in V6 coupe. Just to clarify.
 
I got to drive one last week when I took in my wife's '12 Accord to get checked out and it is very nice. The CVT is definitely not as whiny as the Altima and it keeps the revs pretty low when cruising at highway speeds compared to 5 sp automatic that's on my wife's car. It drives like an Accord which to me is miles better than a Camry, Sonata, Altima, etc. I also really like the look of the new cockpit and dash, it has a lot more buttons than the 2012 but does not feel cluttered. Overall it is a really nice car and I would definitely take it over any of it's competitors.
