All cars from a manufacturer look similar and it goes to unify a brand image. The interior is a lot different from the current CTS and the overall shape is more rounded. They also were able to get it to 3400lbs which is pretty good in today's market. Hopefully the ATS is just as safe as the CTS which is a top pick according to the IIHS, something the 3-series couldn't muster.

I just can't get around to the vertical head and tail lights. Cadillac is definitely on the right track...but they need to get rid of these legacy design queues.

Yeah the 2.0 sounds gutless to me.

It would be the one that I'm thinking of getting. Hope you can get it with the manual and awd but I'm not holding my breath.

All those engine choices are for the regular ATS. Not the V version.

I was referring the the standard LS3. This would be a much less expensive and more practical alternative to the supercharged 550+ HP V series engine. I have never understood why such an engine was never an option for the CTS platform and apparently also missing from this new platform.

Oops, yeah. I was more so referring to the n/a LS motor being used in the first-gen CTS-V, but yes you're correct.

So according to InsideLine (at 1:36), the US market is even getting a diesel version. Then, they go on and say that they also expect a coupe version, convertible, wagon and an ATS-V version .

I believe that the LS3 lacks the refinement necessary for a Caddy. Yes, the CTS-V has a push rod engine, but GM really didn't have anything else that could deliver enough HP to compete at the time. While I love the car and the possibilities, most consumers don't want to live with the harshness of the LSx engines compared to a smooth V8 found in a Mercedes, BMW or Audi. The Northstar needs to be reborn and modernized to compete with others in the market.

Never. They will go with a high revving small displacement 32v V8 like the C4 ZR1 before they ever put a V6 into a Corvette.

I like it better than the slanted headlights and tail lights that practically every car has these days. At least it doesn't look like everybody else on the road that way.
