Should I have mailed my tax returns with certified mail? The postal worker said most people use certified mail but I declined it. Now I'm kind of worried.

How would that person know? I kind of doubt it's true. I've never done it. I always mail my state return because Turbotax only provides free electronic transfer for the federal return. They try to get you to pay $25 to file the state return electronically, but I never go for it.

It boggles my mind that free state filing isn't part of the equation. Do you really think some person enters your paper return into a system? Not happening. I bet the state gets the electronic 1040 from the feds and it all goes in automatically.

Mailed mine out today, the post office clerk also tried the certified, priority, overnight nonsense with me. I let the clerk weigh each envelope and put a postage stamp on it, then i asked for a receipt. There is my proof it was sent out.

Did my taxes with TurboTax and then used H&R Block for the 2nd free look, we'll H&R block told me I should deduct moving expenses which I completely forgot about, still had to pay, but it was a lot lower than expected. Thank you H&R Block for the free advice.

2 month extension is automatic, 6 month extension you have to file 4868. It's simple really.
