Being a Father myself, I have an emotional attachment to my children. I am lucky in that I know I am their genetic donor and their father. Sperm donor does not make you a father. Being there for your kids to the best of your ability is what makes you a father. Unfortunately biological rights usually supercede custodial rights. If the world were truly interested in whats right for the children, the guy if still interested should get custody of the children in said case on the grounds (if no problems in his past) that he is the more stable and mature guardian. In the real world he would probably only legally in a court battle be able to get custody of his biological child. The wife or the biological father of the other child would be able to get custody of that said child. What a sick world, when the welfare of the child is not truly considered. I would admit that in a court case, the judge is severly hampered by short time exposure to the participants, but they also have to uphold existing law.

There is a statement that is corny but it is accurate, Any man can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a Dad.

I guess the first father looked a lot like your friend, if he didn't notice that his genes weren't in his child...

Some kids look so much like one parent or the other, or even distant relatives. The way I understand it, the confession came after some questioning of just that.

not sure if this is true for all states. but I've read somewhere that even though the child is not yours by birth. but since you are already a father figure and have been providing support, the judge will most likely force you to continue.

It was talked about on the radio awhile back, in Cali. The whole reasoning was behind "what's best for the child". So I guess you are stuck with it.

Well the part about legally supporting a child that is not biologically yours is BS. If they enforced that there would be nothing stopping women from getting knocked up by whoever they wanted and finding a sugar daddy to fund their shopping, I mean child.

I think it really boils down to personal responsibility. Why is it if a girl gets pregnant that they guy HAS to pay? Because he had sex and it was a possibility? Well that doesn't sit right with me. The woman consented to sex knowing that she could get pregnant and thusly assumes the risk and financial burden.

I don't think anyone is trying to force him to pay for a child that isn't his. He has raised the child as his own so I think the OP is suggesting that the guy wants to be part of the kid's life still.
