Yeah, "find out the truth, google 2012". What truth? That it is an arbitrary date from people who misunderstand the Mayan calendar? That only nutbars believe in any of this?

Yeah, that's "truth" brought to you buy a large media conglomerate looking to make a buck off of people's gullibility.

wonder if the large media conglomorates paid the History Channel to run the documentary about 2012...it ran during Nostradameus week...

interesting show about how several different source predict some type of catastophic event leading to the end of the world in Dec 2012. the piece on the web bots was also interesting...

also mentioned something about magnetic fields reversing because of some planetarly alignment or whatever...

Im not gonna move to Montana and build a bomb shelter or anything, but I wonder if there is any truth to any of this stuff...

The media companies will go towards what makes money. Inciting fear, thus viewership, generates ad dollars.

Wow, people predict something. Big fucking deal. I predict the sun will raise tomorrow.

Reversing the magnetic fields doesn't matter. There are tons of websites discrediting that type of stuff, all of it grounded in science, not bullshit.

I am shocked and appalled ATOT.
News of this movie, and a trailer, has been out for a long time, like half a year now.

It's been known that it is directed by Roland Emmerich.

I want to see it to see what crazy plots they come up with that result in a massive surge crashing over mountains.
Guessing a comet/asteroid. But that'd be a terrible movie, that'd been done to death. Maybe its a comet and hellfire and weather change and pole reversal and solar storms. Now that'd be a sweet movie. :D

As for the 2012 notion. Strangely enough, we are overdo, statistically speaking, for a shitload of things that will kill millions if not billions.

Magnetic Pole reversal is long overdo... this one is pretty regular, between 400 and 900 million years. We're a couple hundred million years past the longer estimate of that range. :Q
Asteroids, generally speaking, a major event hasn't happen in a long time.
Solar activity - crazy lull in the Sun right now, and solar storms have happened in the past that if they occurred today would wipe out most of the world's electrical grid until it could be repaired.
Canary Islands - half of an island could slip into the ocean anytime, sending a tidal wave that'll hit the East Coast (US) and destroy everything up to 20 or so miles inland, iirc.

And...
- Yellow Stone. Massive volcano that keeps moving North East, hasn't erupted in forever, though that hot spot has produced quite a few devastating eruptions. As soon as it finds a weak spot as the hot spot moves, the US is doomed, and most of the world will be screwed in terms of weather and plant life.
- California. It is still attached to the US. It'll continue to infect us with hippies until it finally splits/falls into the ocean due to the long-promised massive earthquake. WTH Earth? Why haven't you followed up on your promises yet?!

This one is probably not accurate, as there is recent evidence that an asteroid strike may have taken out the large mammals (e.g. wooly mammoths) in North America 13,000 years ago, which is incredibly recent in geologic time. Watch the Nova Last Extinction episode (available online) for full details. Note that this is a completely different event than the major strike that is believed to have killed off the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.
