apparently many people in this thread aren't smart enough to look into movies before seeing them, complaining about paying money for movies that end up being shit

Catering to the lowest common denominator has never been my thing. I've had employees who barely spoke English but even then I doubt they'd go watch Indiana Jones dubbed into Spanish. Does Univision even play dubbed English movies? The answer is no and they're the largest Spanish speaking TV network in the USA.
 
Although I don't think paying $9.50 or whatever we pay here is "that bad", but we are pretty lazy(therefore we can't even be bothered to go to the $2 theater either), and for ~$165 we pay every month for the bajillion channels and Netflix, we try to get something out of them first.

People always complain about this, but those are also the most popular movies...

This is probably a significant reason.

4) There may be some resentment against "Hollywood" as many over-paid actors' paydays continue to get bigger while the common-person sinks into a lower income bracket.

I've never heard someone say they don't go to movies because actors are paid too much.

Other reasons attendance is dropping -
1. Watching movies at home is getting closer to the movie theater experience
2. There are other cheap/free entertainment options

Adam Sandler is a genius. Some of us work our whole lives and never get wealthy. He makes movies that have no plot, no characters, no jokes, no special effects, and he still makes millions. That takes skill.
 
I don't really mind the ticket prices. I actually pay a premium just to sit in the adult only (21+) section of the theater. I also get to choose where I sit when I purchase the ticket (online for no fee), which is rather nice. Although, until recently, I haven't really seen any movies in the theater.

I agree with the home theater sentiments though. It's definitely a lot nicer watching them at home, and the only reason that I see a movie in the theater is simply because that's the only place it's available (unless you are a pirate! yar har fiddly dee!). Even though with the rather large popularity of streaming content, I highly doubt that we'll see move studios move away from the theater model. It does make me wonder if any of them would be willing to stream movies to people for say $10 a showing (I realize it's high, but I'm trying to keep in line with ticket prices) when they come out in the theater or possibly the next week (kind of like how Netflix has to wait a month).

Yea especially in the second part they tear into it over the scamminess of the movie, it is about the most shameless money making project you could think up. When a film that looks like it was filmed on a tv budget actually has a budget of 79 million it just tells u something is wrong.

Wrong is relative. Adam Sandler and his friends stick together pretty tight. I'm gonna guess that the salaries were pretty high. Ask yourself if you made a movie with your friends if you'd care if people criticized you for having a high budget and hooking your friends up.

That isn't the point though is it, you can respect someone for being the king of scammers but still see that they are full of shit. Kind of like the bankers and the ceos that through cozy boards get ridiculous payoffs for failure
 
There is a difference between a movie that turns a profit (as amazing as that is for J/J) and a CEO that makes $150 million even though his company goes bankrupt etc.
 
This year I moved to a town with a classic movie theater. $7.00 for a full price ticket -- to a double feature. $1.50 for a soda, $1.25 for popcorn. Sure they are all old movies -- but I got to see Citizen Kane, Sunset Blvd., Winchester '73, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Wizard of Oz, and several other classics.

Last summer I wasnt allowed to buy a ticket until I took a can of Coke outside. Assholes.
 
Wife and I always stop at a CVS to get our drinks and candy before movies. Instead of spending $20, we spend like $4.
