And then there are some saying "Best ever". Its been a good two weeks.

Best ever what? These olympics were a complete diasaster from an organizational/safety standpoint. The best thing about it was the hockey, and I must admit that the games were amazing, all of them.

Good hockey game. I didn't want Canada to win because I thought they played "dirty" throughout these olympics, and I live here so I know Canadians are generally assholes. I really wanted Russia/Sweden to take it, and I was excited for Slovakia, but oh well, maybe next time in 2014 when the Olympics are in Russia.

In any case, I was cheering for team USA, along with my friend, only 2 people out of 50 in a bar, yea we got some looks, it's all good 🙂

The only reason Canada did so well in these olympics is cause we were hosting it and they actually funded athletes this time around, good for them, although I don't think it's fair the luge/bobsleigh teams had more practice hours than the rest of the world.

I was also reading an interesting article today on the Polish cross country skier (she won 3 medals). She said she is happy with the medal count and her performance but she can't wait to leave here and go home because she's never felt a more negative vibe or seen poorly organized events such as these in her life. She said everything was bland and she can't wait to compete in future olympics where it's actually somewhere nice.

GG

Canoworms is going to love you.🙂

You mean how in Turin, which was the fastest track ever made at the time, the Canadians were only given 15 training runs? Is that not a PERFECT comparison to the current situation?

Of course not. It's not the fact that it's the fastest track ever made at the time which is directly relevant. It's the overall dangerousness - which includes variables such as speed, narrowness of the track, grade, poor construction decisions, etc.

They gave more training runs than is required by the IOC, and held a WC event there last year. And FYI, they actually do their training runs from lower starts and move up to the top over time. He would have had more training runs (like everyone else was given), if he wasn't required to participate in extra events just to qualify.

They are complicit with other organizations. VANOC took advantage of poor regulations. They gamed the system and it resulted in death.

One guy fucked up on his run, and he died. We should do our best to learn as much as possible to make sure all tracks are safer for future athletes. Athletes have died before in luge, and will die in the future. It is extremely sad, but no one went out of their way to kill anyone.

It's more than Nodar's death. Other athletes refused or were unable to perform due to the nature of the track.

Someone most definitely went out of the way knowing that the track was unreasonably dangerous, restricted access to it, all for economic and nationalistic reasons.

You've ranted this same thing in this thread about 10 times, and in several other threads. Give it a fucking rest. No one agrees with you and you are just trolling.

Yes, 1 guy dying first day, poorly designed track/dangerous track. Failures at opening ceromonies, Gretzky on the back of a pick up truck being chased by drunken mobs. Complete lies/show of "native people" supporting olympics, lulz, they are treated like shit in this country, although all that was made to show the world "we respect the natives".

Uneven test times for counrties on tracks, no snow, many venues closed, mix up with tickets, shit breaking down everywhere.

Oh wait, and the mental patient that snuk in a few rows from the vice president was awesome 😛 Mad skillz yo 😉

That has been echoed throughout much of the international media.

I'll agree with Sandorski here. The olympics were fantastic. Everyone got everywhere they needed when they needed to be there. Weather was a problem for a few days, but it always is with the winter olympics. All the events happened, and all problems were reacted to and fixed.

There were minor glitches here and there, sure, but they too were taken care of. And yes, it is sad that Nodar died, but this is not the first time someone has died at an olympics.

Ridiculous.

Maybe if your brethren didn't mob me with the same exact stupid, under-developed arguments I wouldn't have to keep repeating myself. It's not exactly fun.

As nice as Vancouver is, could they have picked a worse Canadian host city for a WINTER olympics?

That was a terrible fuckin place to do olympics, palm tree's grow close to Vancouver. They should of done it 1 hour noth of Toronto where the clouds took a gigantic diarrhea of shit snow.

so i just checked on the map as I wasn't familiar with the next location; a country with a vast amount of tundra and generally cold climate and they pick a local that's almost the furthermost south spot?

yeah, my GF (who is from Latvia), was confused when I told her where in Russia it would be held. She thought it was some other Sochi (or soshi, she was thinking) b/c they consider Sochi a summertime vacation spot. 😛

Wow. One arm doesn't come up and it ruins the olympics... Did you not see the closing ceremony? We laughed and made fun of ourselves for it.

The native part wasn't a complete lie. Quite the opposite. I know quite a few of the local natives, some of whom are the family of one of the artists that did the medals. They're just as happy that the games are here as anyone. They're just as proud.

The training run numbers have a very good reason which has been explained many times.

There was plenty of snow in Whistler, and the events at Cypress happened without much problem. Yeah, we had to truck in the snow, but considering that this was the hottest January/February in 100 years here, it went pretty well don't you think?

Many venues closed? Hardly. Some tickets for Cypress were cancelled sure, but what would you rather have? A bunch of people standing waist deep in slush?

They have snow and mountains there.

Yeah, but Toronto is a shit city. Everyone knows this. 😀

Palm trees grow IN Vancouver. All the cherry trees have blossoms. Everyone is outside enjoying the sunshine (well, the sun just went down, but you know).

Cypress was a little slushy, but Whistler had plenty of snow, and it was great to be outside during the games.

Sandorski thinks that the international media has been so critical of these games because people are jealous of the Canadian banking system. Do you agree with that, too?

Everyone didn't get where they needed to be. Tens of thousands of tickets were canceled. A psycho also got close to Biden. He was not supposed to be there. There were major transportation problems, too.

Weather, despite not under man's control, still influences whether an Olympics is good. In this case, it was quite horrible and changes to events due to weather caused serious issues with medal chances. There were several major glitches, some of which affected medals. Or are you just erasing that from your mind? The officiating was horrible.

Good hockey game - 3rd period kept me on the edge of my seat and I was just as ecstatic as Jeremy Roenick [the announcer] that the game was going into overtime [GO USA!]. I really wish it had gone all the way to a shootout. The experts predicted it - get in front of Miller and you'll win. If the USA dumps and chases - they'll lose.
