Haha. Whatever man. Because the Olympics is all about "clean play" they made the retarded decision to essentially ban fighting. Semin, the real pussy, laid a total cheap shot late in the game (that they had no chance of winning at that point) onto a player in a dangerous spot. Since none of our other players could step in and beat the crap out of him, like they would have in the NHL making Boyle's actions unnecessary so he wouldn't have been suspended, Boyle went and stood up for himself and let Semin know that he wasn't just going to sit down and take it. This is why fighting actually makes hockey safer. I can see the reasons behind why the Olympic committee thinks it makes hockey look "goonish." But it makes the game safer. That's why the NHL is scared to send their players there. People playing all out with no physical accountability.

And as pointed out in earlier posts. The refs aren't all from Canada. They are a mix of NHL refs and IIHF refs.

Eh - Semin [and a few other Russian "superstars"] had been pulling cheap crap during the entire game.

Ovechkin becomes a worthless dolt when things don't go his way - acts like a spoiled brat and basically gives up/shuts down. Glad the Canadian's finally figured out their magical line ups to send the Russian's crying all the way back home. 🙂

Weeee. Just got home. I watched Canada/Russia at home, then immediately went out to watch Slovakia/Sweden as i won a ticket in a draw with a Slovak friend. The game started pretty slowly, but got better all the way until the end. Hurray Slovakia!

I hope Canada wins Friday and then Slovakia takes the bronze on Sunday.

If the Canadian's lose, which I think they will - there is no doubt in my mind its because of bad coaching on the part of Babcock. He has been horrible all season, Detroit has suffered because of it and now Canada is. It blows my mind that he was picked after the season Detroit has had.

say whatttttttttttt 😛

i was welling with pride last night when it became 3-0..... what an awesome performance by Canada.... playing the way they can... no one will beat them if they play like that!

Suck it Ovy!

Ovechkin needs to get over his prima donna syndrome if he wants to get to the next level.

Canada didn't look that much better last night than against the US. They actually had fewer shots last night, but got lucky that Bykov was too stupid to pull that sieve Nabokov earlier.

Malkin was invisible.....

No more so than any other russian player. Malkin had more points than any other russian throughout the olympics (3G,3A). Ovechkin, the next closest, only had 4 points (2G,2A).

In terms of pure skill, the russians are definitely the best team. They just couldn't get any chemistry going. I would love to see the olympic hockey if you gave the teams a couple months to prepare. There would be some seriously epic games.

you're right, their whole team was invisible. we fuckin owned them, hard. they can dangle through pylons and toedrag until they are blue in the face, but they faced a real hockey team that finally did have their chemistry clicking, and they got bitchslapped. Canada had their chemistry going, so this is a poor excuse for Russia. face it, they choked.

I know when I don't like a thread on AnandTech I don't just overlook it and check out one of the thousands of other threads. I go into that thread numerous times and bitch about it. 🙄

Canada's women's curing team is in the final. 🙂 Looking forward to the gold medal women's hockey game tonight.
