Maybe so...although I've had 0 issues with mine (2005). 60K miles...haven't even had to replace the brakes. Just changed the spark plugs and the engine runs as smooth as the day I bought it. So while we're basing it on anecdotal evidence...I think they are the most underrated vehicle on the planet.

oh the engine is fine!
rest of truck ..comically bad
1.Plastic clutch pedal
2.Clutch pedal assembly well known issue replaced 2x(i been a stick driver for 20yrs across many vehicles)which led to----master cylinder leaking and sqeauking..so that was replaced.
3.heater went @ 20k!( a 1st for me)
4.leaf bushings...horrednous!!!squaked like the biggest POS ive ever driven/
5.rust breaking out on ALL frame seams yr 3!!!!(due to stress)
6.Toyota service is nightmare!,clutch related warranty 1 8k
and i used it as a commuter:awe:

the evidnce is well doc'd and easily googled
ill NEVER buy a tacoma again...negate all issues except the frame alone and i still wont
im glad yours aint giving u grief..but i am more glad i dont own it anymore!

most of these issues are well doc'd/service bulletin

I'm really just giving you a hard time. I also have a manual model...but I haven't had the same problem as you had...although it's about the most clumsy manual I've ever driven. My leaf springs do squeak a bit in the winter...but good to go in the summer. I'll have to take a look again on the frame rust...last time I checked it wasn't bad...but after two winters in St. Louis...I need to check it again.
