Easier said than done, these twin clutch transmissions are always a weak point. Putting in a manual would be the answer.

Putting in a manual would also slow down the shift speeds, so straight line/track speed would still be slower...although I do think they should give buyers the option of a 6MT vs a 6 speed dual clutch.

But going back to the drawing board would be the best way to go. Sure, it's not easy, but definitely not undoable either. Porsche is putting their PDK into the 911 Turbo soon, and the Turbo is putting out similar power as the GT-R. We'll have to see how reliability fares there, since the Turbo's PDK implementation will also have launch control.

Using LC does not void the warranty. Having something break while using LC or within a short time after(week-month) has a high possibly of being denied for warranty coverage.

Also even without LC people are getting stock GT-Rs in the mid-to-high 11s quarter miles. But it doesn't really matter, it isn't a dragster, its a track car.

Here's the offical statement from Nissan North America (from nagtroc)

Released to NAGTROC 10/9/08


"The singular thing people need to remember is that using launch control does not void the warranty - The warranty clause regarding the operation of the vehicle with VDC turned off states that Nissan will not cover damage or failures of otherwise covered components, IF it can be determined that the use of launch control led or contributed to the failure. The act of using launch control (which requires turning off the VDC) will not automatically void the vehicle warranty. Simply put, the warranty outlines that failures or damage resulting from things such as misuse, accidents, non-factory modifications, etc. are not covered under the factory warranty.

Further, the warranty states that VDC should only be turned off to help when rocking the vehicle when stuck in mud or snow.

Nissan will not void the entire warranty on any of our cars based on one specific issue of one specific component or system, however, a part or system won?t be covered under warranty if Nissan determines that the failure was as a result of misuse, modifications, etc. (as mentioned above)."

Like you said LC is not really needed. The GTR is already 4wd and a good set of R-comp tires will get that thing moving.

There is probably no way of getting the GTR's tranny to be reliable enough and cheap enough to withstand that much abuse it's going to get from idiot owners.
 
I never said it would void the entire warranty. There are laws in place that stop Nissan from doing that. However, if you use LC ONE TIME, if your transmission fails at 40k miles. You're fucked.

They then have the right to void your warranty. I have read the entire 79 page thread.

I'm sure people will be able to piggyback the launch control software on to the new GT-Rs. Perhaps they?ll be able to do it in such a way that the black box won?t be able to detect it.

The PDK is supposed to be pretty badass, I think Edmunds did a review of the NA 911 recently and was told by Porsche that the PDK can withstand 40 back to back launches without ever going into safe mode or otherwise hicupping.

You mean Borg-Warner? I don't know. Maybe that creates other issues, or maybe it doesn't really solve the problem. I am not a transmission designer.
I wonder if with all the b!tching and moaning about launch control, how many of the 2009 GT-R owners would bring their car in to the dealer to get it permanently disabled?
 
I love all the haters in this thread claiming the GT-R is now shit because of one feature that American buyers seem to not be able to use in moderation.

Pathetic.
 
I guess I don't see the big deal. Nissan definitely shot themselves in the foot by marketing this feature in the US in the first place, but the car is a beast with or without LC, and I can't imagine I would use it more than once or twice if I had a GTR, knowing the abuse it inflicts on the car.

Because they are a company that makes $20K econoboxes, not $100K sports cars. Why do you expect customer service on par with the exotics from a company that makes cars in 1/10th of the price point
 
You guys REALLY need to read the last thread about launch control. At first I completely 100% blamed nissan. However, after reading the details I completely changed my opinion.

The GT-R is, in essence, an automatic. Launch control puts the car into a sequence that is almost identical to taking a manual transmission revving up to ~7k rpm and outright DUMPING the clutch. In an AWD doing this repeatedly is a recipe for disaster.



Nissan is at fault for advertising falsely low 0-60 times but come on guys - this is NOT a drag car. This is NOT the type of car where you drag race more than once or twice a year and nissan isn't voiding your warranty over that. IIRC the guy that had his warranty voided did the same thing as dumping the clutch >50 times within two months. No freakin joke the transmission failed.



That car is tuned to it's maximum potential, it's too bad that a bunch of rich daddied ricer babies are able to buy them and abuse them.

The problem is that people are treating these 100k cars like a 20k econobox RICER.
