Sort of repost, but not really since the other thread was just text (at least OP was, I didn't read all 70 posts)

No audio at work but the Caddy is really growing on me.
edit: The exterior of the Caddy seems a lot nicer to me. I would still drive both to determine whether the 'road feel' is worth the premium the BMW commands.

Check back after BMW has something contemporary to offer. This should take nothing away from the outstanding CTS-V, however.

The E60 M5 was introduced in 2005.

You can play that game between the two every generation. The point is that Cadillac made a HUGE leap with the new CTSv

Yes, but the E60 platform started in '03.

Yes they did, but the 1G CTS-V was still not up to the challenge vs. the E60 M5. The 2G CTS-V is a truly epic improvement.
With a twin-turbo on tap (wide powerband with loads of torque starting at low RPM, if expectations are correct), it would be shocking if the new 2011 M5 doesn't one-up the CTS-V once again. And it should, considering the price difference. The CTS-V is one hell of a bargain for the kind of performance it brings to the table.
With GM's troubles, and with CAFE, and a questionable global economy, I think they are both pretty obscure in terms of sales, with this gen of CTS-V likely to be the last.

And in 3 years you can own one for $30K.

I see nothing wrong with that 😉

The CTS-V is technically a great car, but I just can't get past the weird styling.

lol the m5 didn't need to be "redesigned" w/ a new platform because the 1G cts-v didn't give it any competition. bmw decided to save some cash and maybe they can go all out on the next gen m5. gm blew millions into making a 2g cts-v that can beat the oldie m5 from 03, with BMW "leading" the luxury pact w/ best luxury car manufacture, i'm sure they are capable of making a car that will beat out the fairly recent 2G cts-v.
all in all, the pure classiness of the M-class cars from BMW, i would give up that 1% of performance to the cts-v. if you've ever driven a BMW, you will know what a pure driving experience feels like. no wonder people are willing to shell out $40k for a compact car and 70k for a midsized car smaller than an accord

I'm not sure what all this 6 years crap is. The current 5-series came out in 2003 as an '04 model. The current CTS came out in 2007 as an '08. That's 4 years. Moreover, the M5 came out in 2005. The CTS-V in 2008. That's 3 years.
So are all the BMW homers planning a circle jerk for 2011 (2012?) when the next-gen M5 beats the 3 or 4 year old CTS-V? Maybe an ATOT meet?!

people that are willing to sacrifice some better driving will get the cts-v. so far the m5 is winning by sales even though its more expensive.

Sacrifice better driving? Motor trend prefers the CTS-V over the M5 on the road course (video). The CTS-V beats the M5 in a straight line too. How exactly are you giving up better driving?
Also, the CTS-V tends towards letting the rear end slide out at the limit as you give it power. The M5 scrubs the front end. From an enjoyment standpoint its just more fun to power through the turns and slide the rear end than have the front lose traction.
