Wow can you believe it's almost baseball season again?

I'm hoping for a great draft. I'm in an AL only keeper league (up to 5), $260 auction draft, 8 teams total, 10 batters, 8 pitchers, 3 reserve, head to head.

These are my for sure keepers and at the price I will keep them at:
Aaron Hill ($5)
Jacoby Ellsbury ($20)
Justin Verlander ($15)
Mariano Rivera ($30)

Now I have to choose from one:
Derek Jeter ($20)
Jonathan Papelbon ($35)

I'm leaning towards keeping Jeter because of the steep discount (he's the #1 projected SS projecting $36), but it was nice having a near monopoly on closers last season. Papelbon is projecting $31...so I guess I'll take the discount on Jeter with the mindset of having the luxury of overbidding on Papelbon.

I'm very intrigued by auction leagues. I haven't done one yet. Is anyone here interested in starting an AT free auction league?

Free fantasy is doomed to fail. It will eventually turn into a ghost league. Trust me on this.

You may be right. I'd be willing to do a small amount, nothing crazy though. The big money leagues are saved for football season!

I haven't gotten into fantasy baseball yet. I should try it this year.

Also, Verlander is going to win the Cy, so good choice.

I've played in a few leagues with friends. We start with 12 and we end up with about 8-9 active people, with about 5 updating almost every day. I would only do a free league here if I didn't do one with my friends.

seems like a lot to spend on relievers...a REAL lot...

I tend to agree, especially if you are talking about a standard 5x5 roto league. I mean a closer is going to get you 1 category and should help ERA and WHIP...but their innings pitched are so much less than a good starter. So 1 crappy starter's ERA and WHIP could easily offset two good relievers.

As far as the OP's question. I'd keep Jeets. You get great average, 15HRs, good on-base, a lot of Runs....600 at bats in a potent lineup

I'm in a head to head league, and saves is an entire category. I had the two best closers and a good closer last year and I had 1 category won every week. It's huge IMO and underrated. Same with players who can steal.

I don't think I could play in a league that counts saves. They're the most meaningless stat in baseball, outside of the hold.

H2H makes it fun to the end. In Rotisserie if a few players can't catch up they give up early.

Yep, I am going to send out the invites to everyone from last year's league minus the one guy. Its going to be the same format however if the league gets filled quick then I'd like to do another thats H2H.

Got the invite, thanks. Unfortunately Yahoo does not work for me anymore since it is now blocked at my office and I do most of my transactions during lunch and whatnot.

If I join/create one, it would need to be through ESPN. :\

Ill take an invite if anyone is setting up a league. I usually do 3 leagues every year. But have not done an auction league before but have always been intrigued by them.

Yes, but at the same time, wouldn't you rather have a stud starter who really helps in 3-4 categories instead?

I can understand your idea though. If you get 2 stud closers you are basically guarenteed to win that category. 2 stud starters don't guarentee you 3 categories, although they do help.

I MIGHT keep papelbon and then trade him if needed.

Dang it.....I was going to skip FAntasy baseball this year....now you got me excited about it ;)

So I'm in a H2H league with 8 teams, I have the WORST breakdown record, but the 2nd best record, and I'm tied in breakdown with the 1st place team (who's 2nd in breakdown).

Conclusion: Fantasy Baseball is all luck

lol i'm losing FB playoffs by 1K after Austin jackson just scored that RBI. Which means the only way I can win is if they bring in Verlander and he gets a K.

somehow made it to the finals in my keeper league. I had Ellsbury, Morales and Tulowitski as my keepers. Tulo single-handedly won me the quarter and semi final games for me, what a beast.
