2010 Dodge Charger SRT8 vs ???, looking at $600 a month or so for a payment

Just because Dodge sells quite a few of them, doesn't make it a great car. Vizio sells a shit load of TVs, but they are FAR from being great TVs. And there is definitely a compromise when buying one.

In the end, it really comes down to what the OP wants. If he wants a Charger, have at it. It's not my money, so my opinion really doesn't matter.

I beg to differ on the Vizios. They are indeed a great TV in certain models. I know of quite a few that could easily blow more dough, but loved the picture.

Now that said many don't like seeing a calibrated TV for the first or even second time...once you pick up on all the detail that you were missing prior (especially dark scenes) you change your mind.

That said to really beat a Vizio, you will be spending 1.5-2x the money.

The Charger has gotten rave reviews, it's made many "Best Of" lists. Usually with the GT500 or something better above it.

I will admit the 2009+ CTS-V if it sounded the part would be the no brainer if you could afford 2 SRT8 Chargers.

BTW do you Charger haters realize it's a Mercedes platform?

It's slightly older tech, but it's a nice solid base still. It really doesn't feel like it weighs 4200 lbs in driving it, but you get all that nice isolation and solid feeling-ness from that.

I am coming from a 2750lb car so that was a concern. I'd need to drive one again but with the GTO I thought I felt that extra weight.

The Charger seems like a strange car to cross-shop with an M3. Personally I can be a bit of an interior-fondler, and the Chrysler products are just not of a standard I can tolerate. They start out bad and get much worse (i.e., rattlier and nastier-feeling) fairly quickly. I just bought an E46 M3 so I admittedly have a bias, but to me it's just a far more interesting car, and one that will hold its value better than a Charger. I don't really care about rarity but it surprises me there are so many E46 M3s where you live - they've been comparatively rare everywhere I've lived. The bigger concern I had when shopping was to get a good M3 with a clear service history - that took me a long time.

Honestly, are you saying the older M3's are holding value? I live in S. Florida...most of all exotics are sold here (many for export)...

We have teenagers rocking E36 and E46s all over the place.

The SRT8 Chargers seem to keep there value pretty good, but resale is not really a concern to me. I modify my cars and that usually kills resale anyway.

If you are buying new enough from a first owner I have found like the Porsche owners they are pretty good at service records. If you are buying that 3rd to 4th owner car then things get wacky.

Thats a good ball park, I got my 2007 with 12k miles on it back in November 09 for 27.5k. I love the car but gas mileage sucks lol. I wish I had the 2008 or newer cause the Mygig is nicer than the older units on the 06 and 07. It still does the job though

One thing to not forget is that the SRT8s do not come with a spare tire (which is plain retarded). I had to buy a spare tire kit on ebay cause this is my daily driver, was not cheap but I was thankful when I had to use it. Its nice to have a daily driver that will run mid 13s stock.

Dont worry about 60k cars, dude you will love the SRT8 charger. I was going to get an RT until I test drove the SRT8, SRT8 won hands down. 425hp NA is no laughing matter. For a full size 4 door car with speed you cant beat the price.

Btw I like the challenger but there is no reason that it should be 8-10 thousand dollars more than a charger

I haven't had a spare tire since around 1990 or so. AAA FTMFW. No way I am going to try to change a tire on our highways when people even run into stopped police cars with sirens and lights still blaring.

I have picked up a spare from a used tire shop when traveling in uncharted territory though. I have been able to sell it back for a fair amount for what was basically a rental.

I mean they're holding value in that if you buy one for $20K now, it will still be worth most of that two years from now. Obviously the E46s are selling at a fraction of their original MSRP.

In terms of the service records, all dealer service is maintained in BMW USA's computers, which simplifies things somewhat (not that I think dealers do a better job - just that the record-keeping process is much better).

I live in a place that is more or less the polar opposite of S. Florida, in both good and bad respects, and M3s are comparatively rare here. Still, even if they were as common as Honda Accords, I'd pick an M3 over a Charger seven days a week and twice on Sunday.

We have Ferraris and Bentleys here too, not just rusty old Tauruses. Nice cars are not exclusive to the land of oranges, hurricanes, and creepy nightclub owners . . .

I know about minnesota, two girlfriends of mine have moved there. There is a reason these types of cars are increasingly rare north of the snow belt.

I am going to be curious of your track time.

There is nothing great about Vizios. They are low end TVs for people that want a big TV for cheap. The key selling point for Vizios is, they offer "good enough" performance for the average Joe, and that is why they sell well. They have come along way over the years, but I still would not rate them any higher than high on the low end side. And I'd rate all the other brands no higher than mid level (with the exception of Runco and B&O). The high end died in 2008/2009 and all we have now are average TVs with a big markup. Apparently manufactures think if they slap a big price tag on their TVs it magically improves performance. 🙁

But this is going completely off topic and should really be discussed in the A/V forum. If you'd like to continue the discussion there, I'd be more than happy to oblige. I love talking about A/V equipment.

I think like your opinion on cars, you form your opinions on a/v gear totally on branding it seems.

I know a lot about the a/v industry...there is a reason Vizio's are making top 10 lists other than just pricing. No one is saying they are the industry leader...

I can certainly fill you in. The local BMW club does two HPDEs per year at Brainerd International Raceway, which for many years was the fastest road course in the US (I believe it still is). I've done these a few times in my 330i. I will do additional events with the Iowa and WI clubs, at Mid-America Motorplex and Road America. There are also advanced car control clinics that are closer to me, and held on a small course built for police driver training - these are a ton of fun (again, I've done them in my 330i). At this point that's really all I have planned.

Then you are mistaken again. Like I said, if you are really interested in discussing A/V gear, I'd be happy to oblige in a different forum.

BTW, I gave you a suggestion for the question you asked in the A/V forum. 😉

Yeah SRT8s keep a good value, check out autotrader. Much better than the other models.

I have a 2012 Charger. I bought it because I needed a family sedan. The aggressive styling and great performance is a bonus. Anyone comparing a small Euro car to this is missing the point.

And before anyone knocks the Dodge, take a test drive in a 2012. You will be surprised by the interior quality.

The charger is a perfect car for someone like me, who needs practicality and safety but wants something that doesn't feel emasculated, like a Honda Accord or some other drab and boring sedan.
