$600/month over 5 years (?) on a new SRT8 sounds like a great price. If that's your question. I wouldn't personally pay that much for a car, there are too many other things to spend it on (kids, retirement, etc.). Also that thing will guzzle gas, it's just an opulent expense. Even if I got a $10k/raise out of the blue I wouldn't put it to a car.

The Challenger does look very cool. I don't like Dodge in general as a brand but it's definitely prettier than the Charger.

That car weighs somewhere around a rediculous 4200lbs. That is honestly absurd.

I really don't need to bring budget into this. My goal is to have a car payment of $600 tops. Like I mentioned earlier a new SRT8 and other cars I am interested in will push my payment to $800-1000/month in my budget (I don't have kids), that takes away too much from savings and puts too much into a single item.

I am getting great yields right now in my investments so on the flip side I'd rather not pay cash for a car I can finance at 3% or less.

You can get used SRT8s for a good deal right now, I would look at a 2008+ since the upgraded the interior that year. I dont think there is a huge difference between the models after that year. With these gas prices rising I bet people are cutting really good deals on them.

I just don't get that car. The thing looks awful IMO. There is a reason it is not a common car, no one wants one. If you want a car that's not common, get a Kia Rio. I don't see too many of those on the road.

I don't mean to rag on the car, I just never understood why someone would want that car. I guess different strokes for different folks. Can't you just get a standard CTS? It looks A LOT better than a Charger. And you should be able to get it for about $600 month.

That's why I am targeting 2010. 2009 would work but I want 10k miles or less. That's looking at about $32-35k in car. 2010 had minor changes only...I am open to either.

$35k to me is still a ton of money for a used car, but I like it. My wife's NEW GTI will be less than $30k out the door.

There are cars I'd like to own, but they are on the $60k+ side...friends say I should just go for it...I could afford it, however; there is so much more to do with my money esp putting it away so one day I can just stop working.

There are a lot of Rios on the road.

I like my cars to look manly I guess, I have never been in to naming them Shirley or Rose, or whatever a lot of dudes do.

I can guarantee a Charger behind someone vs a CTS will get them out of your way faster.

I know many love that Lexus LS460, it's just too much isolation and living room on the road for me.

He wants something with pep and I would not recommend a standard CTS. For one, the engines have a common problem with the timing chains needing to be replaced early and potentially often. Second, they are no longer offering the 3.6L with a 6 spd. Third, while it may ride better, the SRT8 will outperform it and pretty be funnier to drive on a daily basis.

Are you high? They are everywhere. Great car for someone who wants a muscle car but needs 4 doors, useable back seat, etc, and doesn't have room for 3 separate cars.

Not an SRT but an R/T. It's a 2007 model. No it's not a nimble auto-cross car, but an excellent freeway cruiser. It even gets decent gas mileage on the freeway if you keep your foot out of it. I've got about 30,000 miles on it with zero issues. I don't drive it in the winter because I have a better car for the winter months. If I had it to do all over again I would probably buy a Challenger SRT. But I really enjoy driving this one.

C5 vette. Heck you could prolly pull a C6 for that much.

I could get into a C6 Vette. Two problems though with that, one is not as roomy for my two dogs to ride up front and not as practical.

I had the Vette on my list for a while. It's been a pain at times to not be able to fit four in my car.

To others on the 'not so nimble', this is one of the things that got me really interested in a 4000lb cars capability (I was already looking at the GTO, which if it had a rear seat that folded down I would have bought a couple years ago when one came up for $15k and about 8000 miles on it locally that a friend of a friend wanted to see go to an enthusiast...he later sold it for much more to someone that just wanted to keep it stock).

I had the 2012 model as a rental, gotta say you would be hard pressed to believe its a Chrysler. I actually like the redesign though.

Ah, I just threw out Kia Rio because it was a crappy car no one wants. However, in the case of the Rio, they really don't WANT the car. It's just something people get because that's all they can afford (which is obviously a completely different situation the OP is in).

As for 4 door "muscle cars," they just irritate me. There are only a FEW cars that can pull it off (4 door sports cars), and the Charger isn't one of them. IMO, if you want a sports car, get a sports car. If you want a comfortable riding car, get a nice luxury car (CTS). If you want BOTH, you'll have to pay for it to be great a both (CTS-V). I just don't like compromising, ESPECIALLY when it looks like the Charger. It's not even great in the style department. It's just a mediocre car, and the SRT8 doesn't make it any better. Can it outperform a Challenger SRT8, Camaro SS or Mustang GT (5.0)? No. Does it ride better than a CTS? No. Then what is the point? You basically have a car that performs OK, and rides OK. Nothing great about it in my book.

Obviously this is just my opinion, so if the OP LOVES the Charger SRT8, more power to him. But if he is buying this car because the other options were "too common" (Challenger, Camaro, Mustang, M3), I'm not the one that's high.

dude WTF are you talking about...the Charger does outperform the Challenger in many things.

also like I said, I'd love the LATEST CTS-V, but I am not going to pay $1500 a month for a car. The older ones have weak rear ends...

The other things for a daily driver is visibility...the Challenger and Camaro have craptasic rear visibility.

what are you driving?

A few that can pull it off? There are hardly any choices in that category to begin with. All the cars the Charger competes with in it's price and class are 2 door only.

Spending $600.00 on a Chrapsler is a bad idea...
Just my $.02

Edit: Have you test driven one? Make sure you will. I for one could not stand more than 5 minutes surrounded by a cheap, hard plastic so characteristic to this brand...
Better yet, wait two more years until Italians force a complete redesign of the interior...
