2010 Challenger SE

Opinions? My mom is looking at getting one. V6, automatic, etc. She's driven it, she likes it a lot. Says it has a smooth ride, good handling, enough power for her.

It's got 17k miles on it and they're asking 20k for it. Good deal?

Is she dead set on the coupe? At that trim level, a charger with the same engine is going to be nearly the same car (from a driving standpoint, they weigh within 150 lbs of each and are the same platform), and be a few thousand cheaper. Though, neither handle very well for the low end model, but your mom may not care about that. (No challenger handled very well until the last two SRTs).

Actually, she just asked me about the Charger.

She has been wanting a larger, 4-door vehicle, and had been cross-shopping SUVs like the 4Runner and newer-model Durango. She saw the Challenger, drove it and really liked it.

I told her if she likes the Challenger to just get it, but I also told her to drive a Charger first.

She may be able to get a 2011 Charger (with similar miles) for a similar price as a 2010 challenger. The 2011 was a redesign and is a better vehicle.

This was my thoughts too.
Apparently the newer Chargers are excellent vehicles for the money.

For whatever reason, on the high end, the charger costs more, but on the low end, they charge a premium for the challenger look.

I'd take the Challenger hands down over the Charger. The Charger just looks like a goofy car IMO. It's like, "I want to be tough looking, but I still need to get some groceries and take the kids to school." The Challenger on the other hand looks like a full out mean muscle car designed to do one thing, race. And the Challenger 392 does a pretty dang good job at that, although only in a straight line. She may not be considering the 392, but at least the car still has most of the look.

As a 392 owner, I assure you that it will do more than just go in a straight line.

if you are getting the V6, make sure it has the new pentastar V6 engine in it. wayyyyyyyy better in all aspects.

otherwise, V8 or bust

The 2011 is nice for sure, but we can't find any within a hundred miles in the price range she's looking at - 15-20k.

Oh, and I was wrong on the numbers. It's a 2010 with 29k miles and they want 18.9k for it, which is about a thousand over the Edmunds CPO value. My mom is completely fine with the V6, she said it had more than enough power for her (her current car is a 2002 Eclipse GT V6 5spd)
