Zenyatta is a female horse (filly) who has won 19 of 19 races. Unheard of in the sport. She tries to finish her career at a perfect 20-0 before retiring and being breed to Curlin.

Even the great Secretariat didn't go undefeated so this would be history making and move her into the ranks of the best horses ever. Every breeders cup races is over 1 million dollars with the big one The Classic going off at 6:45 EDT and a purse of 5 million. Coverage starts at 3:30 EDT on ESPN.

This is the day when best horses race in a variety of races and you get to see the top 2 year olds in the Juvenile which are the ones to watch for next year's triple crown races.

I don't follow the sport too much, but why would they retire her this year instead of racing her next year in the triple crown? I assume it's because a filly doesn't usually win there, and it's better to go out undefeated and be worth a ton of money to breed

The triple crown races are run by 3-year old horses. Zenyatta is 6.

Triple crown is only for 3 years old. She's six. And better to finish perfect and go make super horses with Curlin.
 
Man, I bet today would be a great day to go to the land of broken dreams (Laurel Race Track) and bet on these.

The "Breeders Cup" is a weekend long event with races of all sorts going on. The BIG race is the Classic, which is what Zenyatta is running in. It's basically the best horses in the world running together. For a lot of people in the horse racing circles, this is a much bigger race than the triple crown races.

If she wins this race, there's no question she goes down as one of the best ever.
 
There is a ton of money to be made on all the breeders cup races because every horse is good and can win. There were many 2000+ dollar trifectas yesterday.
 
I'm shocked she's this old and she's still chugging along. Good horse.


So why didn't she end up in the triple crown when she was younger?
 
Juvenile was won by an incredible run by Uncle Mo. Jockey never really asked for anything until the stretch and then just blew everybody away. This is THE two year old to watch. Impressive win.
 
30 minutes to post. The odds are off the hook. Zenyatta is taking all the betting money. If anybody but her comes in 1st there is a ton of money to be made. Only 4 horses out of 12 horse field are under 20-1.

After handicapping this race, there seems to be a good argument that she'll get beat. Too many other quality horses in here with higher Beyer speed and speed has been winning all day. No works posted for churchill downs, a mediocre (for this field) Beyer of 95 on her only non-synth track race.

Time to make some money.

Damn she was right there... aah so close

Horse Racing just can't catch a break, so many horses who were good enough for the crown in the past 10 years but all fell short, now this.

really looked like she was going to pull off the comeback, but blame had a bit more in the tank
