God hes lucky I didnt see him Id smacked him twice right there in the store.. I hope he is reading this as well.. greedy punk.

You called the store asking the employees to check the 200 vs 160 for you??? This is why some deals die fast. Also why you were on hold for so long asking someone to do for you. Its a DEAL, put a little effort into it

I'm using an Epox 8kha+ mb. I'll try doing a fresh install of XP this weekend--maybe it's because I updated to SP1 instead of doing the slipstream thing that it didn't work. This is going to be such a pain after all the tweaking I've done to my system.

On second thought, what difference would it make if I had updated to SP1 or did a clean install with SP1. The fact of the matter is that I would be running SP1 before the drives were installed anyway. Or perhaps certain parts of Sp1 didn't get installed because I had installed it before the drives? In which case, couldn't I just install SP1 again?

Yea this is just flat out stupid. "Hello I was wondering if you still have any of the HD's left that you're selling for way cheaper than you want to be??"

Also I went to the Best Buy on 23rd street in NYC last night and they only had two of these in and neither were the 200GB version. Picked it up anyway, they come packaged with a free Promise ATA100 IDE controller card, which is pretty sweet. It's an awesome deal all around.

I checked 3 stores in the Minneapolis area and none had any 200s in 160 packaging. Rats! We're right by the corporate office; how come we don't get the super deal??? 🙁

Does anyone know if this drive is as good as the western digital? http://shop4.outpost.com/product/3492233/ I really need a new large hard drive...

That's still a good price. Given some of the troubles I've had with my WDs over the past year, Maxtor is looking like a fine choice. They've had issues in the past, but their newer drives are supposed to be very good.

ookay guys I already got 4 ims but there were only 3 drives there when I left yes all had 200 GB disks inside the 160 GB packaging Im leaving RIGHT now too pick them up.

Bad news 🙁 they had 3 when I left but while I was walking in I think I saw somebody walking out with 2 of them, they had 1 left I picked that up, and Im filling out rebates right now, Ill be sending the drive out tomorrow morning to Jay the first guy who emailed/pm'ed me

sorry fellas I promise Ill keep an eye out though. I have 6 BB in a 20 mile radius so Ill keep looking for the next 2 days.

cheers

Anyone know of any Minnesota locations with the 200s? I've checked 4 now (north metro area) and all had 160s only. Even had a couple of the sales guys up on ladders looking through the overstock on top of the aisles! No luck!!

JimmyK - I'm up for one at $108 if you can find any more later...

Thanks,

*SF Bay Area Update as of Thursday, Aug 28 2:00pm Pacific Time*

Drove out to the bestbuy in Pittsburg, they have 4 160 drives on the floor
I saw some locked up in the case thing against the wall so I had one of the
guys open it up and let me dive in. I scored a 200 and there were at least 2 more
confirmed 200 drives there! Good luck and god speed. I did tell the guy about
the deal and to expect more people asking to get in there. 🙂

BB by SF Costco (Potrero Hill area) did not have any 200GB...they had 160GB when I checked on Tues. They had pulled them from their top shelf and there were about 4 left.

so any store with wd 160 might contain the 200 or only the best buys have em?

some people are pricematching Via circuitcity and walking out the door with 200 drives for 100 bucks + tax

How are they doing this? Does CC have a current ad showing the 160 for $100?? Will BB pricematch that?

Thanks!

Alright, I finally got it to reconize all 200 gigs of space. If anyone else runs into the same problem as me here's what I did. Basically I installed the ATA card and windows xp found drivers for it, version 5.something or another. Unfortunately, you have to use the older driver found on the disk that came with the card if you want it to work properly. I popped that disk in, chose the older driver myself from the device manager and after I rolled back to the older driver, everything worked fine. Goes to show--newer is not always better. My drives are now formatted and ready to go.
