Its pretty clear many members here are 15 year olds...

2 rebates are mfr rebate which you need to mail. The other 2 rebates you do online at the same time. Takes less than one min and you dont mail anything out.

CompUSSR is currently in the process of trying to jerk me for 2 rebates. Last month they told me they sent the rebate out in early-mid January. The other day when I called them to tell them that I didn't recieve it they said they just sent it out about a week ago.
I bought the item 11/25/2005

Don't insult the USSR like that. They are named CompUSA for a very, very good reason.

Anybody know if Staples still take OfficeMax coupons? That would be hot, I have 10 off 20 and 30 off 150 in store coupons that OfficeMax mailed cus I haven't shopped there for a while.

how do erebates work? do you sign up for them online? do they therefore arrive faster?

You create an account at the erebates site for all your erebates. Whenever you have an erebate, login to your account and enter the information they ask of you (all info on your receipt). The system will automatically know what erebate you qualify for and then you wait... in my experience it took about 1½ months for my first batch from Black Friday (second batch isn't done yet). That's closer to the quoted 6-8 weeks on most rebates that we know usually takes longer. IMO the CompUSA erebates are slower than the Staples Easy Rebates because I don't think I've had a Staples Easy Rebate take longer than about a month and I've done quite a few (for instance last Anniversary sale).

I got burned by a CompUSA a few years back for ~$70 IIRC, so I've refused to risk it again with them.

That's a good price at Staples. Can you point me to it? I can't find any mention of it here or at FW. Thanks.

I mentioned it here. It's the first item in the list.

Ah! Staples is GOING to have one on the 19th for $40 after a $40 easy rebate. No wonder I couldn't find it in the current Staples offerings. It's a Maxtor SKU 504517. (Hope that link works.) Good deal for the rebate-shy folks.

no thanks
compusa is very unreliable with their rebates. i recd an email rejecting a rebate because i didnt turn in the rebate form- but my email address was only written on the rebate form!

I'm thinking I will do the same. These rebates are out of control.

Me three, although I would prefer to have a Seagate instead of a Maxtor.

Is this in-store? If so, I can go late on monday and get a rain check for the drive at the price after rebates, right? I did that at office depot a few years back with my 160GB...

I've done some research online and people have said that CompUSA DOES give rain checks, but you need to either kiss the managers ass or call the corporate office and have them tell the manager to do it. If you go late on monday, you should be able to get there when they are all out of the drives and get a rain check. I plan on calling a few stores ahead of time, then going with my friend and us both getting a rain check. We'll hit two stores, so I can get four drives. And the rain checks can be used any time within 90 days.

Thanks. I had a hard drive die Saturday and I need a replacement as soon as possible, so I'm willing to risk the rebates. They had a big pile of them on the upper level at the San Antonio store but it's hard to find anybody to get one for you. It also has a nice 5 year warranty.

why is everyone saying 4 rebates? I only saw 3???

Two electronic rebates, two mail in.

I ended up plunging for this as well as the Staples deal, because I need the storage. I have to say that Staple's Easy Rebate system is way easier to use, more responsive and superior in every way to Compusa's system.

I only got one Compusa rebate for $60

Two from Seagate, $40 + $10

First time trying a CompUSA rebate, I'm wondering if their E-Rebate system is the better bet versus standard USPS mail with delivery confirmation?

People who have had bad experiences with Compusa, did Compusa claim you sent them wrong information? or did they claim they never got your rebate?

^^^^^ this is what I got as well, well, I ordered mine online they will deliver free since I bought an extra set of speakers, but what about the other rebates???

I bought one at my local CUSA.

I got 1 $60 CUSA eRebate - filed online. The other 2 were just as mentioned by rcllbrg in the previous post - one $40 and one $10 - both of these MIRs go to old El Paso.

I went for it because CUSA got spanked by the FTC last year for failing to fulfill rebates ...

I'm hoping that they learned their lesson.

Well, even if only the 50 rebate from Seagate comes in, its still a good deal for a 5year warrantied drive, Seagate is quiet and reliable in performance

But I'll have no problem shooting off an email with FTC threats if I dont get my CUSA rebate in 8-12..

FWIW - I picked-up one also. I've done the CompUSA eRebate before and found it to be nice and easy. Just input your address info and receipt number, that's it and you can check your status anytime online. I've always gotten my Seagate rebates, a little slow sometimes but got them.
