no thread on this yet?

pics galore

Love the car BUT I strongly dislike the fact that the car doesn't have its Hyundai emblem. It's like ashamed of its own brand. Why doesn't Hyundai create a luxury sub-brand already just like Honda-Acura, Nissan-Infinity & Toyota-Lexus?

It's really stupid to buy a car that tries to hide its own image...

they aren't popular enough to have a luxury brand.
their previous luxury car failed at sale.

There's a thread in the Garage about this, but they're not aiming at the luxury bracket. They're gunning for the Accords and Camries and Maximas.

RWD
~300hp
~30k
0-60 ~ 6 sec
Sedan

Not many competitors in that price range. A loaded Accord will set you back upwards up that. For a dinky FWD.

The Hyundai brand has no cachet in the luxury market. Sticking a Hyundai logo up front destroys the image you are trying to project.
I say Hyundai is smart to drop the H for the sake of the posers who buy this car.
"Anonymous" is better than "Hyundai."

It looks pretty good & for the money, you're getting a lot. There's a reason why Toyota, Honda, and other Japanese Car companies said that the company they were most worried about was Hyundai. I think it's akin to when Sony was at top and Samsung/LG (Goldstar back then) were known to be cheap brands. Now Samsung has surpassed Sony & LG is getting there.

Yeah, I will definitely cross-shop this if I'm ever in the market for another loaded Accord. RWD and a V8 might make me get over my concerns about resale value. ;)

i half agree. I think Hyundai should re-brand themselves for the US market. That H is frickin ugly and there is too much of a stigma. They should do what Toyota did with Scion and just create a new branding campaign.

I thought the latest redesign of the Sonata was intended to take on those models.

If anything, I think this model will be placed up against the more luxurious counterparts of those models (ie Avalon).

Yeah, they definitely need to branch out to a luxury brand like Honda, Toyota and Nissan did with Acura, Lexus and Infinity.

Its for this precise type of person that they chose to drop the Hyundai brand. Many people are too stupid to look vehicle per vehicle, citing that no one else but Toyota / Nissan / Honda are capable of producing a decent car. That's half the reason Ford / GM / Chrysler are in the shitter. Even though they are now making great cars, people refuse to by domestic simply because buying import is the "cool thing to do."

Car consumers heads are so far up their asses now that they're forming a collage of coming back up out their mouths and back into their own asses again in a never-ending stagnation of shit and drool.

Actually the Hyundai is supposed to become the luxury brand.

Kia is supposed to become their regular brand.
