yeah, my reaction is wow, it's an automatic.
🙁

This isn't some sports car or anything. Just because something is manual doesn't make it cooler/faster.

Sure makes it feel cooler/faster though 🙂

Yeah, usually manual trannies tend to get from 0-60 faster than automatic trannies.

Case in point: 335i automatic manual is around .5 seconds slower to 60 than the straight up manual.

Well yes that's widely known but with a car like that......it doesn't really matter. I guess it's just me venting when everyone gets a new car and posts about it and you get many people giving a thumbs down just cus it's auto. There's nothing wrong with auto. Many auto's now-a-days are better than manuals.

That is true, but only on higher-spec vehicles. Cases in point :

Porsche 911
GT-R
Veyron
Ferrari
BMW SMG
Mitsu Dual-Clutch Evos
etc

All offer perfect performance with highly-tuned automatic setup. But on the lower end of the totem pole :

Cobalt
Focus
Corolla
etc

You get either a CVT or a 4-speed slushbox. Which is where a good old 5-speed actually makes a pretty big difference, both in performance and in economy. I recently averaged over 40mpg on a trip to Tennessee and back, which included a lot of altitude changes and traffic. 🙂

I like manual much better than the automatic garbage anyway. It's boooooooring. But with a clutch and a gear lever, I'm in control!

Also, a the guy who bought the DBS had an M5 a while back, in fact, he pre ordered one and was one of the first to get one in the United States. He didn't like it, big disapointment for him. He usually drove manual cars, but wanted to see what a high performance manual automatic could do, and he was sorely disapointed. In his words, the shifts were too abrupt, downshifting was a hassle, and the gearbox was a pita.

That's his experience, he aslo had a Carrera 4S which he sold a while back that was also an manual automatic manual.

He was so unimpressed with the BMW M5's gearbox, he said he never wanted a BMW ever again. That's pretty harsh, but the gearbox must have really pissed him off.

That's odd. I can understand wanting a manual just for the feel of it, but BMW's SMG setups are about the best in the business, with the M5/M6's being particularly good. In M mode, the downshifts are lightning-quick, and when you are off throttle, it comes back to a cruising gear with alacrity. I dare say it does a better job of shifting than almost anyone could humanly do. The Tiptronic setup in the Porsche is a shade lazier, so maybe he wasn't expecting something so hyper.

I'm a former E39 M5 owner who has tested the current M5. I prefer the old 6-speed manual, but have a lot of respect for the setup of the current one.

cooler is subjective. faster, likely since there's no parasitic losses via the tc.

but who gets a manual for those reasons anyway?

Sweet looking car. We are used buyers, but next time we come up for a car I'm thinking we will end up with one of fords current/new models

guys guys, i think you are missing the point here. this is my daily commuter and while I do agree with you that manual transmission = manly man....I commute 120 miles/day in and out of NYC. Plus my wife can't drive stick and I don't want to teach her on a brand new car.

My next non commuter car will be a either a G37 AWD coupe or 335ix coupe.

Oh and this was my old car 🙁

Thanks. Seriously for the deal that I got on the car I really couldn't pass it up. It came out to $17,600 + tax and all that with 0% financing for 36 months.

I was looking used but when the Civics and Accords, etc were going for $15,000 used I decided for $2000 at least I was getting something new, not abused and had lots of features that the used cars did not have.

I don't mind a regular automatic tranny but oh my gosh do I hate CVT transmissions. I'd choose a manual though.

We have to put up with this.

sarcasm? I think the euro version looks way better than the US version.

that and the euro version is based on a better platform.

still not a fan of the focus styling myself, but at least Ford is trying.

No, our one looks bland and boring.. I like the US version much better..

I just bought one of these today!

Same as yours except: Silver, Manual, No leather.

Will post pics when I pick it up tomorrow!!!

Actually, the new european version of the focus is one bad mother. This!I wish this would come over here, but alas it seems the US will not be getting this version.:brokenheart:

I like the RS, but the regular Euro Focus looks bland, almost like a Honda. It is lacking any soul.
I like the new Fiesta a lot more in terms of design.
