You would think that with such a small and underpowered car you would get better mileage.

True smaller cars like this should get much better mileage but if you compare it to a Honda Fit w/ an automatic it's pretty similar.

Aveo5:
25/34

Fit:
27/34

Off by 2mpg in the city, big deal.

This is OT, but it's unfortunate that there are so few "higher-end" small, yet practical, cars. In fact, I can't think of any right offhand. Mini Cooper?

BTW, that Aveo looks pretty good. Ford's new Fiesta also looks promising; hope it makes it to the US.

Not a terrible car, and although the MPG isn't what it should be, it's important to remember how cheaply GM sells these things for.

It's a Daewoo IIRC, under the chevy badges.

Hopefully better choices should arrive soon. I don't see why we can't have the following :

5-passenger seating
Hatch
1.5L 95hp motor
~2,125lb weight
38/42mpg city/hwy
$9,999 sticker

"Integrated dual-port grille"
"Wraparound front fascia"

Impressive ...

That seems to be a trend.. Very tiny subcompacts getting the same gas mileage as compacts.

Some of these "Small" subcompacts are actually large cars. It's as if they took something that looks small and scaled it way up.

It's sort of hard to tell from the pic, but it seems this car suffers from the teeny-tiny wheels and huge side panel look. It seems like from the side it looks a bit like a 1st gen Prius.

It looks the same as the old one, with a Malibu grill grafted on without shrinking it first to accommodate the Aveo's smaller size.

Will it still be a rebadged Daewoo? (*snicker!*)

Agreed. I started looking at the EPA numbers awhile back, thinking a sub compact would net me a little better mileage when I get a new car in the future. If there's any difference at all, its usually 1mpg. WTF even bother if thats the best they can do, just offer a hatchback of the compact. I realize 5mpg difference is probably asking a lot, but they can't even squeeze 3 more out of the shrimp mobiles?

I think the 2 door yaris might actually get something respectable for an increase over the corolla but I know its not mind blowing.

With the subs, its usually the city number that improves not so much the HW
