GM has a few cars available with autos and paddle shifters.

paddle shifter != DSG/SMG

two totally different things. i also thought that too, though 😛

take the Audi A6 or A8 with paddle shifters - its simply throwing the shifter onto the steering wheel with the paddles and operates the same as an auto transmission that can be shifted manually (VAG's is called tiptronic, not sure what everyone else calls it)

but in the VW GTI with DSG (also having paddle shifters), there are two clutches - one for even gears and one for odd gears.

yeah, the paddles give the impression that a car with them has some sort of DSG, but it's not necessarily true, hehe 😛

I'm not sure about GM's plans, but Ford has something in the works...

The result (which must surely be a much less expensive engine that the ZR1) is an estimated 550 hp at 6,200 rpm and an absolutely stonking 550 pound-feet of torque, also at 6,200 rpm.

Never seen any engine with characteristics like this...

That doesn't even make sense...

HP = Torque x RPM ÷ 5252

590=500x6200/5252

Unless 500 is not the peak torque, I am kind of confused as to why they peak at the same RPM value...Somebody care to explain?

Also: manual: 4200 / 1905 (est)
automatic: 4300 / 1950 (est)

What is that auto tranny made of to constitute a 100lb penalty...

Every track day I go to in northern california the same guy brings his current model CTS-V out.

Trailers it there, runs the shit out of it (even had some body damage at one point), and trailers it home. Oh, and he's pretty darn fast, but I'm sure he wears out his slicks pretty fast with the weight.

M5 is also a much older platform.

I'd still rather have the M5. At the very least it will retain its value better.

And still cost 2000 bucks to get a plug or oil change.

A friend of mine owns a 2001 BMW X5 4.4i and I'd have to say that it is probably the best SUV I've ever driven, and I've driven quite a few. No American SUV ever made even comes close quite frankly. If I were ever to lust after an SUV...and that's asking a lot, it would be the BMW X5.

I can't wait to see all these talked about cars next week...the show's a week away and I don't even have my schedule yet!

At least I know I'll be there on charity preview night so I can catch the Barenaked Ladies live 😀

i'd probably have to go with an Audi Q7. someone right around the corner has one in silver, and it's pretty darn good looking for an SUV/CUV/soccer-mom-mobile 😀

You could also throw in GM's No-Lift shift manual on the new HHR SS.

No totally different. You shift with your foot still on the gas. Commonly refered to as Wide Open Throttle Shifting. My car with different PCM's have that feature built in. It keeps the turbo fully spooled while shifting so in theory makes you faster, but with the small turbo's all these type of cars come with, they have practically no turbo lag at all so it's really not needed but every little bit helps.

That interior is really sweet. How much will that car set you back?

The old CTS-V started just around 60k$ I think

The STS-V starts at 80k$

The OLD CTS-V started at $52K and went as high as $54K. They come standard with every option except moonroof and metallic paint.

I expect the new one to base at $58-$62K which is roughly a $15K premium over a loaded CTS.

meh, it needs a bigger chrome grills in the front!!

Rather have a BMW M3

Why do american car companies make the ugliest steering wheels??
