In the end,it's still a FORD product...

Mustang has posted the best selling numbers throughout history for Ford or any other car maker in the performance side.

Its as simple as that. They have molded it more general than a specific vette/viper.

The Taurus was a great selling car, too, but that didn't make it good. ;)

But I know there are folks who just like Mustangs, period, and nothing else will do.

That's true about a lot of cars. But the Mustang does have a lot going for it in the cheap speed and personalization departments.

Yeah brand loyalty is big. Mustangs are like the CPU wars. Sometimes they are on top, sometimes on the bottom...then in the middle others.

I owned a 1966 GT full resto + some tweeks and an 1988 GT that was pretty well modded.

Currently I am in a 1998 240sx SE, still debating the 1989 944 Turbo.

Quite true. I love Mustangs, but I can switch.

Like in 04 when I was looking for a new car. 38k to buy a new Cobra, or 70k for a new Z06. I love the z06 but I am not much of a road track man, and the vette is so much more expensive to have some fun and mod...so thus my choice.

Hell I know the mustang has a lot of short commings, but when I step on it and hear the SC'er whind up, or downshift and get some exhuast crackle, it puts a smile on my face. And, while handling is not that great, 1. It is actually pretty good because of the IRS, and 2. I never push it to the limit of adhesion on public roads anyway, nor would my skills be developed enough to do so (which makes me scared when people always argue over handling at the limit), as it is just dangerous. So I take it to the strip in the summer, and have some fun.

One of these days I new Ferrari (challenge stradale or scudiera, what ever they call the racing version) or Aston Martin will be mine.

In 2004, C5 Z06 had a MSRP around $52k but people bought it for around $40-42k. Dealers were discounting $10-12k off sticker because the car wasn't selling. Everyone was waiting for the C6. Since you're talking about $70k for the Z06, I'm assuming you meant the C6 Z06. C6 Z06 didn't start shipping until fall of 2005 and only lucky few got it that year. MSRP was $65k but most early adopters paid around extra $10-20k premium due to the demand.

Well obviously everyone knew about the performance and ~price of the c6z06 by then...so another reason to buy the cobra, I would have had to wait to buy the z06.
