5 grand for a 5 year old Aveo with no options seems like a lot. I mean it was a terrible cat when it came out.

The base versa new is 10k or 11k and a better car. And 5 years depreciation for a comparable car should be over 50% and this isn't that comparable. For $4k I think its be ok

Ahhh the Versa starts at 12k for a base model per their web-site. 13k if you want auto trans.

That car actually isn't the worst thing ever to hit the road, hyperbole aside. It is, however, quite poor, and at $5k, about $4k overpriced. The insulting thing about those cars is that as small/crappy/underpowered/flimsy as they are, you'd think you'd be getting 50mpg like the old Geo Metro / Civic HX (was it HX? can't remember, but one of them hit about 50 or so). The Aveo doesn't, not even with the manual, and the auto ones are AMAZINGLY bad.

Badgewise, it's not a Chevy in any meaningful way, just like the Vibe is a Toyota, the Prism was a Corolla, etc. Unfortuately, the Aveo is simply a horrible Korean car. Korea makes many many fine cars, this wasn't one of them.

$5k can get you something almost infinitely better, and if you're looking for things that area actually quite good but suffer from poor badge image, the Pontiac Vibe is a good candidate. Even with 100k or so on the clock, I'd take a Vibe every single day of the year over an Aveo.

TBF, KBB value is about 6.3k, so at 5k that is 1.3k off...

but KBB is never the actual sale price, is it?

I'd rather ride the college bus than drive an aveo to class. Buy her a bicycle, that would probably be less of a death trap.
