I see that no cities from New England or the Tri-State area made the list. Oh well.

IMO the city at the top of the list should be Chicago.

I live in Chicago, and as far as big cities go, I definitely agree with you. Housing is cheaper, cost of living is fair, plenty of jobs, lots to do, as compared to the other major cities.

One problem though: WINTER.

I think they just deliberately shuffle around entries on these "best cities" lists by manipulating the data and ranking methodology just so they have an excuse to publish a new one each year, much like the "top XX schools for program Y" lists.

Ethiopia and Somalia have a combined 100 million people. 😛

and over 1/3 of that is houston.

moving here from austin, houston isn't nearly as bad as i thought it would be, and austin is getting worse and worse while houston is getting better.

the big thing is that houston added 100,000 jobs last year. the whole country only added 262,000. and yes, houses are dirt cheap out in the burbs (they also don't appreciate much out there, though).

Raleigh is alway sup there, makes a lot of sense.

Though, I about crapped myself thinking Fayetville was referring to "FayetNam," NC.

Me too. Fayetteville, NC is a crime riddin' military town. I do like living in the Raleigh area. I have to visit Houston annually and cannot believe it made #1.

Why is Sac showing up on all these lists lately, did they pay someone?

I can only guess b/c it's a whole lot cheaper to live there now.

Definitely not. Cost of living in Sacramento has steadily climbed over the last 20 years.

Omaha is actually a really nice place to live. There are a lot of reputable companies to work for here, lots of young singles, and crime is relatively low. The people are very nice, too.

I'm glad Omaha is #3. I'm actually pretty proud of this place.
