I already have the alarm clock set to call in tomorrow

Congrats to the RedSox. The played like champs all year.
They truly deserve it.

Curious, who do you want to manage the Yankees now? And what do you think about Arod opting out?

Let's leave that for other threads (there already is an Arod one). This thread is for the RedSox.

Now we can all get our free taco 🙂

not if you work full time. I think you can only claim the taco from 3-5pm. On the other hand, I know someone who just furnished their entire home with Jordon's Furniture....

Oh yeah. Gonna be some VERY Happy fans!

30,000 People and 30million payout

damn some of those riots were pretty intense. and there was a shitload of police in kenmore square.

You should have been there when they got to the WS in 04. That was intense. But the motherload was when the Pats won in 02.

why din't you call in on Tuesday instead (welcome/congrats parade)?

I wish I didn't have so much work to do or I would have called in sick. And I wish the timing of moving into my new place coincided with the Jordan's Red Sox deal.

I wanted to go to the red sox parade, but I have to go to a funeral. Oh well, I went in 04, so no need to go again.

Jordan's had a promotion back in March that whatever you bought from them in like a 2-3 week period would be free if the Red Sox won the World Series.

Luckily, they took out an insurance policy b/c something like 30,000 people bought $20mil in furniture.

😕 Wasn't the funeral for the Yankees this year back in early October?

They stopped complaining about that back in 04. That's the Cubs domain now.

Sorry that's not possible, nobody can even come close to being as obnoxious as a Yankee fan though Phillie fans are giving it a good try.

Congrats on buying the world series, boston!

Free agency is part of the game now. I'd personally love to see a better revenue sharing / luxury tax system to penalize teams who spend significantly more than others, but the Red Sox didn't really do anything unreasonable. Dice-K's contract works out to 17 million per season in total expenses, which is pretty much what top-tier pitching costs these days. Even that number is inflated a bit because a lot of the initial investment is being recovered through advertising and increased viewership from Japan.

Yeah, JD Drew commanded a lot of money and maybe that's what you're refering to, but the Sox still had Pedrioa, Paps, Ellsbury, Lester, Youkilis on the field as-home grown talent. Varitek is practically home-grown. The deal that brought Beckett to Boston saw the Sox shipping off two very, very good prospects (one of whom is tearing it up now) - they paid a high price for Beckett directly from their farm system.

So if you mean that the Red Sox were smart with their assests, traded away valuable talent for immediate impact players, and generally outplayed everyone they encountered then maybe they did buy a championship.

Please tell me you're a Yankees fan. That would cause the irony level to reach a toxic point.

it is sarcasm i am guessing. Yankees fans when they were doing well heard this sentiment time and time again. There lackluster post season performance in the last couple years should settle once and for all that payroll != performance.
