It got that reputation because it had much better manners than the 911. A human being could actually driving it without racing skills because it didn't have the 911's tendency toward trailing throttle oversteer. If you ever drove a 928 you wouldn't call it a ladies Porsche, for it's time it was VERY fast while still very comfortable.
