I get about 18 MPG with a 75/25 City/Highway driving pattern.

Best I've got is 380 miles out of a 17 gallon fillup (22MPG).

This is with the 4WD LE crew cruising at 75+ MPH. The Nismos do worse because of a more aggressive gearing than the LE's.

..how's the ride??

The ride is great (for a truck). It's a total package - comfortable seats & seating position(Taco slung you too low), low wind noise, very smooth ride, and the steering is dialed in very nice at highway speeds. Only complaint is that turing radius is as bad as a full size, and the steering is weighed too heavy in low speeds (parking lots). It takes two hands to really turn it when you are pulling in and out of a space. It's not like my wife's Highlander than can be steered with your pinky finger in and out of parking spaces.

Drive the Tacoma, then drive the Frontier, then drive the Tacoma again. Listed to how much wind noise is present at 55+ MPH in the Toyota. It's really bad.

The Frontier is actually such a comfortable traveler that my wife and I prefer to take it on long distance runs instead of her Highlander.

I normally like Japanese cars, but I prefer American trucks like the Ford and Chevy over their over-priced counterparts.

Have you ever priced comparable domestic trucks? When I bought my Titan it was several thousand less than anything ford offered with the same/similar equipment.

Compare a Ranger vs a Frontier and tell me that unless you are looking for the cheapest thing possible you wouldn't get the Frontier. I still can't believe Ford hasn't completely redesigned the Ranger yet. It's what 2 generations behind now?

On Compact/Midsized trucks...Toyota/Nissan is the way to go all the way. The Ford Ranger is ancient and very lacking. The Colorado/Canyon looks nice...but isn't up to the task (towing is rediculous...engine doesn't even compare). The Dodge Dakota isn't bad engine wise (especially with the new V8 coming out)...but I'd still go with a Toyota/Nissan anyday.

On Full sized trucks, GM/Ford is the way to go. I tend to stick with GM trucks as I like the engines a lot better than the Ford engines...but both are competent full size trucks. I have to say that the new Tundra is a beast though. I don't love the looks...but you don't buy a truck for its looks.
