hello,

I put the bike in my GFs garage about two months ago. Haven't started it since. I just now remembered to put some STA-BIL in and out 1oz in there and now the bike will not start.

I attempted to start the bike. I can get it to turn over but it won't start. I can hear the started attempting to turn over the engine but no go.

There is gas in the bike as I loosened to gas line just enough to get gas to drip out. I read the carbs may be clogged up?

Any ideas?

Battery is dead. Does it turn over once or twice and die or just turn over and over without starting?

O and garage is <--------- way.

Doubt two month old gas will clog the carbs. You know where the choke is on that bike right?

Make sure you use choke. Try starting it with throttle wide open. Check the battery, it's probably dead. Try starting it more, sometimes it takes a little.

it just sits there and cranks over like it's supposed to I guess

The choke is on like I normally would turn it to when it's cold outside or after it's been sititng a while

the headlights do turn on though anyway to check if the battery is dead with a volt meter?

also is the garage a good spot or no?

If it turns over and over like its spoesed to its not the battery. Its something with the gas probably. You could always run with it and drop it into gear.

Since you've been cranking it for a while, pull the plugs and make sure it isn't flooded. If not, put the plug back in and try again with lots of choke. If still nothing, pull a plug and check for spark (crank while plug is resting somewhere on the frame, nowhere near something flammable).

I do, I live in CT and ride year round. I also rode around in the Rockies during a snow storm on my cross country trip this year. I don't push it around, I ride it around.

Anyway, that's wasn't very nice.

Of course, you think 31 is too cold to be out on a bike!

When you stored it did you disconnect the battery? I'd put it on a charger and see if it cranks first.

Pull the plug and see if it's wet to check if you flooded the engine. While the plug is out clean it.

If it's cranking I wouldn't think that's the issue, but I'd still get a Battery Tender Jr to hook up to it. No bike should be stored without one. I'd think he just has to crank through whatever is in the line to get it started. It could be flooded too. Make sure the fuel cock is set correctly.

It is most likely the battery. It may turn over but the battery does not have enough juice to start it. Motorcycle batteries are not the same as car batteries and can't sit long before they lose their power, even in the summer it can happen.

I had the exact same problem as you last year with my 2006 DRZ400s and my first winter storing it. When I stored my motorcycle during the winter I would try to start it every week to keep the battery charged but the none use and cold killed the battery literally. I finally tried charging it but that didn't work. I could get it to turn over but not fire. It even had a wierd clicking sound and I thought something else was wrong. I could push start it and finally took it to the dealer where they introduced me to the 'battery tender jr' (I agree no bike should be without it)and a new battery to go with it. Has worked fine ever since, I always hook it up if I know I am not going to ride it for a couple of days. I love the battery tender and highly recommend!

If you still are not sure, call the dealer, they will be more familiar with your type of bike and can give you some good advise on what to do. Best thing to do is try to push start it on a warmer day to see if the battery really is the problem. I can push start mine ok, but you might need to find a big hill to go down.:D

Good Luck!
