And what about the pitchers who didn't make the playoffs? Looking at the vote getters, that would be four pitchers in the AL alone. If they had a phenomenal year, but didn't make the post season due to a shoddy team, how does that factor in?

Just from the regular season, there's a more level playing field for voting. 162 games all around.

I'm not necessarily saying hold it against some guy on a shitty team because his team didn't go to playoffs. If there is a guy who pitched fantastic all season and a fair bit above the other contenders and his team doesn't go the playoffs... okay, wrap up the Cy Young for him.

But if 3 of out of the top 5 Cy Young candidates go the post season in an otherwise close race between the five and one guy pitches out of his mind and the others falter in the playoffs... it should matter in the voting. And it does... I have read no less than 5 or 6 sports columns trying to justify why C.C. really does deserve the Cy Young in the face of his abysmal post-season performance. NBA columnist were doing the same thing last to protect Dirk after he choked against Golden State

Well, they can try to explain about how C.C. was so tired and Beckett wasn't (that is patent bull shit btw) but the fact remains, in head-to-head comparative competition when it mattered most... Beckett destroyed the Indians lineup and C.C. choked big time.

Brauns offensive numbers were out of this world.

..........Braun.........A-Rod
BA.......324............317
HRs......34..............36
RBIs.....97.............113
Hits.....146.............130
Runs....91..............103
XBH.....66...............57

Thats after Braun got called up on May 25th.

Though I agree it would be very easy to make a compelling argument for Tulowitzki, too.
It was the closest margin of victory ever for a reason.

Defensively Braun wasn't that great.

Tulo had 24 HR's, 99 RBI, .291 avg

Not as good of numbers as Braun, but not bad numbers.

His fielding percentage was .987 vs. Brauns .895.

Just watching Tulo on defense I would give him ROTY.

He was a huge contributor to the Rockies getting not only to the post season but also for setting the MLB record for best fielding percentage.

I used to pitch in high school (was pretty good) and I mainly like to watch good pitching so I have seen C.C., Carmona, and Beckett pitch many, many times throughout the season (probably more than thecy young voters did). I'm a lefty btw... so if anything I should be cheering for C.C. to win the CY.

3rd... all the arguments about how C.C. pitched more innings, had more quality starts, had a slightly better ERA, etc. is all fine and good. What about Beckett pitching about half his games at one of 'the' hitter's parks in MLB... a 3.3 ERA is pretty damn amazing when you consider that Beckett pitched half his games at fenway.

Edit: Thanks to those folks who automatically assumed I was Red Sox fans and/or called me a retard, etc. That felt great. ;)

I'll be the next to call you a retard. The Cy Young goes to the pitcher who had the best regular season. The post season has its own awards. You make some of the most retarded points ever. I'm sure you really did watch them more than the voters did because its not like its their job or anything to cover baseball. You should cheer for CC because youre both lefties? Uh ok.

please stop trying

I agree that Braun isn't much defensively, but defensive stats are often not taken in to much consideration due to the fact that they are flawed. Fielding percentage only means something in conjunction with other stats.

I like Tulo a LOT and in most other years he was a lock for it, but Braun put up an absolutely absurd performance for a rookie.

If you read my third point again... I'm saying I think Beckett had a better regular season than C.C. when you factor in that Beckett ptiched half his games at Fenway which is a big time hitter's park

The post season does not have a 'post-season' Cy Young so I think there should be some argument/discussion as to whether or not the Cy young should also address post season performance.

I am going to stop trying... it is not worth it. Thanks for calling me a retard too... keep pimping that juice.

Yeah, A-Rod basically carried the Yankees through a lot of the season and then posted an absolutely astounding regular season.
